DENVER – Idaho’s Jesse Villines and Joseph Charles were named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 29-May 5.
Villines, a sophomore from Soda Springs, Idaho, made his way into the NCAA West top-48 with his career-best performance in the 400m hurdles Saturday at the Vandal Jamboree. His time of 52.68 ranks 43rd in the NCAA West, fifth in the WAC and 83rd in the nation so far this season.
Charles, a senior from Bronx, N.Y. (Bronx CC), had two personal best performances at the Vandal Jamboree Saturday. He opened the day with a career-best toss of 16.32m (53-6.5) in the shot put. He then fired off a career-best 50.16m (167-7) to take third in the discus throw. His discus throw mark ranks sixth in the WAC so far this season.
