DENVER – At its meeting last week, the 2013-14 Western Athletic Conference Board of Directors approved several sports-related issues for the upcoming academic year and beyond. The group also elected its 2013-14 Executive Committee.
It was determined that the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will return to Las Vegas and the Orleans Arena March 12-15, 2014. The remaining championship dates and sites that had been recommended by the Council were also approved.
Seattle University President Stephen V. Sundborg, S.J., was elected chair of the 2013-14 Board of Directors. Other Executive Committee members are Utah Valley University President Matthew Holland (vice chair) and University of Missouri-Kansas City Chancellor Leo Morton. In addition, California State University, Bakersfield President Horace Mitchell will represent the WAC on the NCAA Board of Directors.
In other action at the meeting, the Board committed to the development of a strategic plan to facilitate conference growth that includes both a digital network and a new marketing/branding campaign.
The Western Athletic Conference becomes a nine-member conference effective July 1. The member institutions are California State University, Bakersfield, Chicago State University, Grand Canyon University, the University of Idaho, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, New Mexico State University, Seattle University, The University of Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley University.
