DENVER – Major League Baseball completed its annual first-year players draft on Saturday and a total of 26 WAC student-athletes were selected. Dallas Baptist had six players taken. CSU Bakersfield had a school-record five players selected. Louisiana Tech, Sacramento State and UTSA each had three players taken. UT Arlington and Texas State each had two players selected, while New Mexico State and San Jose State each had one player picked in the draft.
Dallas Baptist pitcher Jake Johansen was the first WAC player taken in the draft going to the Washington Nationals in the second round with the 68th overall pick.Johansen, who led the team with seven wins in fifteen starts in 2013, is a power righthander who can run his fastball up to the plate in the mid to high 90's.
