Utah State 1, Utah Valley 0

LOGAN, Utah -- (UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University fell to in-state foe Utah State, 1-0, by virtue of a 50th minute penalty kick Monday afternoon at USU's Chuck and Gloria Bell Field. USU's Taryn Rose converted the penalty after UVU was whistled for a foul in the box.

The Wolverines (0-2-0) withstood the Aggie (2-0-0) attack during the run of play, turning aside a total of 16 shots and weathering 10 corner kicks -- seven in the first half alone. Still, it was the home side picking up its second clean sheet in the season's first four days after senior captain Rose buried her freebie from the spot for the only score of the match.

Utah Valley is now 1-5-0 all-time against its Cache Valley rivals.

"I think we played very well defensively," said UVU head coach Brent Anderson. "Obviously, the penalty was unfortunate, but I'm not discouraged at all by our defensive presence. I thought we struggled to find a rhythm on the offensive side of things and really only started to press the attack until it was too late."

After mustering just five shots over the first hour of play, the Wolverines made a frantic push to pull back level in the game's final 10 minutes. UVU unleashed another five shots within that dire span, two of which required saves from USU's Jeannie Woller, but none would find the net as keeper Woller grabbed her second clean sheet in as many games.
