The Kansas City men’s soccer squad got several firsts on Sunday night in the final game of the SMU Invitational, including a share of a tournament title with a 1-0 win over the hosts, finishing the weekend 1-0-1.

The ‘Roos (1-2-2) defeated SMU (1-5) for the first time ever, while posting their first win and shutout of the season as well. UMKC sophomore midfielder Derek Schrick also helped the squad to a win against his former team.

In Seattle University men’s soccer’s (0-5-1) final match of a six game season-opening road swing, Portland (3-2-0) scored early and, despite tying the game, the Redhawks fell, 2-1.

"Jake Feener, once again, played phenomenally," said head coach Pete Fewing. "It was a great goal by Miguel Gonzalez, his fourth of the year. Today was a tough lesson for the guys, but we'll get after it again next week as we return home."

In a very competitive men's soccer contest, Gonzaga broke open a scoreless game with two scores in an 18-minute span to claim a 2-0 win over UNLV on Sunday afternoon from Peter Johann Field. The Rebels dropped to 2-3 after suffering their first home loss of the season, while the Bulldogs, ranked No. 22 by Soccer America, won their third straight to move to 3-1.

Zack Foxhoven's goal with 5:42 remaining capped off a No. 16 Louisville rally as the Cardinals defeated Bakersfield 4-2 in men's soccer action Sunday afternoon.

Eduardo Caldaza (So., S. Los Angeles, Calif., Roosevelt HS) got the 'Runners on the board first when he scored in the seventh minute. David Velasquez (R-Jr., Los Angeles, Calif., Locke HS) gave the 'Runners a two-goal advantage with a tally at the 42:00 mark.

Khiry Shelton scored twice and Matt Bersano made five saves to lead the Oregon State men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Air Force Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore. The victory lifted the Beavers to 5-1 on the season, while the Falcons fell to 0-5.

The Beavers opened up the scoring in the 13th minute. Bjorn Sandberg passed the ball to Shelton on the left side of the goal. Shelton made a move past an Air Force defender and fired a shot from the top of the box that flew into the right side of the net past Falcon keeper Jake Schenk.

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The San Jose State men's soccer team allowed four goals before the 27th minute was complete and en route to a 6-1 loss to the Cal Poly Mustangs on Sunday afternoon in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

Cal Poly (4-2-0) got two goals from Matt LaGrassa (3:23 and 10:24) and single goals from Mackenzie Pridham (8:33) and Ari Lassiter (26:35) before Sam Croucher put the Spartans (0-4-1) on the board with a goal off a penalty kick in the 36th minute.  It was the freshman from Derbyshire, England's first collegiate goal and the teams went to the half with San José State trailing 4-1.
