The ‘Roos (1-2-2) defeated SMU (1-5) for the first time ever, while posting their first win and shutout of the season as well. UMKC sophomore midfielder Derek Schrick also helped the squad to a win against his former team.

The Beavers opened up the scoring in the 13th minute. Bjorn Sandberg passed the ball to Shelton on the left side of the goal. Shelton made a move past an Air Force defender and fired a shot from the top of the box that flew into the right side of the net past Falcon keeper Jake Schenk.

Cal Poly (4-2-0) got two goals from Matt LaGrassa (3:23 and 10:24) and single goals from Mackenzie Pridham (8:33) and Ari Lassiter (26:35) before Sam Croucher put the Spartans (0-4-1) on the board with a goal off a penalty kick in the 36th minute. It was the freshman from Derbyshire, England's first collegiate goal and the teams went to the half with San José State trailing 4-1.
