In their regular season home opener, Seattle University men’s soccer (0-6-1) trailed early and, despite a goal in the second half, the Redhawks fell 2-1 to Georgia State (1-5-0).

“The guys who came off the bench did a great job,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “Justice Duerksen, in his first game today, had a great work rate and great execution, and was a real bright spot. Miguel Gonzalez, again, scored a terrific goal and Jake Feener was terrific, again, in goal. On other parts of the field, we have to get better. I thought the second half was an improvement and we’re going to prepare for our game on Sunday.”

Henrik Synnes scored the game’s lone goal with 3:58 remaining in the second overtime to give the San Diego State men’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over Air Force Friday night at Cadet Soccer Stadium. With the victory, the Aztecs improved to 3-3 while the Falcons fell to 0-6.

Blake Wise started the winning play with a shot from about 25 yards out that was destined for the net, but Air Force goalie Jake Schenk made a diving save. The ball popped up in the air in front of the net and Synnes outjumped everyone and headed the ball into the upper right corner before Schenk could fully recover.

Playing its second straight ranked opponent of the season, UNLV gave No. 3 Cal State Northridge all it could handle before eventually falling by a 2-1 score on the road on Friday night in men's college soccer action from Matador Soccer Field. The Rebels dropped to 2-4 on the season, while the Matadors are off to their best start since 1979 at 7-0.

CSUN went ahead early, scoring a goal in the 8th minute for a 1-0 advantage. The scoring play was started by a pass from Mynor Giron to Edwin Rivas, who then sent a cross over to Beto Velasquez, and his shot would find the back of the net for the goal.
