CHICAGO –(UTPA Media Relations) McAllen-native and University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's golfer Ricky Solis shot a two-under 70 in the final round to win the CSU Cougar Invitational on Tuesday at the Harborside International Golf Course.
Solis finished with a one-over two-day score of 145 (75, 70) to take the individual championship. He finished one stroke ahead of Green Bay's Joe Collard, Loyola-Chicago's Alex Cusumano and Ben Holm, who each shot a two-day score of 146.
Junior Mathew Charles (75,74) and freshman Gareth Saxon (74,75) tied for ninth with a two-day total of 149. Charles posted a final round 74 while Saxon shot a 75.
Freshman Ben Maskus wrapped up his first collegiate golf tournament with a final round 78 to finish in 20th with a two-day score of 155 (77,78).
As a team, the Broncs shot a final round team score of 297 to finish in second place with a two-day total of 598 finishing five strokes ahead of St. Xavier, who shot a two-day total of 603. Green Bay won the team championship with a final round 294 for a two-day total 592.
The Broncs are back in action on September 30 for the Husky Invitational, hosted by Houston Baptist University.
