Idaho 3, Bakersfield 1
The Vandals rallied from down one set to defeat the Roadrunners in four sets (22-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-17) Saturday night. With the win, Idaho improves to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in WAC play. Bakersfield drops to 8-7 on the year and 1-1 in the WAC.
The Vandals out-hit the Roadrunners .294 to .169 and out-blocked Bakersfield 9-4. Idaho also had more kills (54-50) and digs (63-62), while the Roadrunners held the edge in assists (50-47).
Jessica Hastriter led Idaho with 12 kills, while Alyssa Schultz and Ashley Christman had 11 kills each. Katelyn Peterson posted a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs, while Meredith Coba also doubled up with 41 assists and 12 digs.
Debora Araujo led Bakersfield with 15 kills, while Molly O'Hagan had 12 kills. Mariah Alvidrez posted a match-high 23 digs.
Seattle U 3, Utah Valley 2
The Redhawks won a highly-contested match Saturday, defeating Utah Valley in five sets (25-22, 14-25, 27-25, 23-25, 15-13) at the Connolly Center. With the win, Seattle U improves to 4-13 overall and 1-1 in the WAC. The Wolverines fall to 7-9 on the year and 1-1 in WAC play.
Utah Valley out-hit Seattle U .279 to .203 and out-blocked the Redhawks 21-6, but committed 13 service errors in the loss. Both teams had 62 kills and Seattle U edged the Wolverines in assists (59-58) and digs (58-57).
Iris Ivanis paced the Redhawks with 19 kills, while Allison Farley had 16 and Alec Goodrie finished with 11. McKenzie Daniels had a match-high 19 digs.
Macky Treanor led Utah Valley with 19 kills, while Kalani Norris posted 17. Lauren Stringham posted a double-double of 12 kills and 12 blocks, while Katie Fritzler had nine blocks and Cassie Wahlin added eight.
Grand Canyon 3, Chicago State 2
Rallying from a two-set deficit, Grand Canyon defeated host Chicago State 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-7) to collect its first WAC win Saturday. With the victory, the Antelopes improve to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the WAC. The Cougars fall to 2-13 on the season and 0-1 in WAC play with the loss.
GCU out-hit Chicago State .249 to .179 and out-blocked the Cougars 17-8. The Antelopes also tallied more kills (62-58), assists (59-52) and digs (78-75).
Hayleigh Friemoth led Grand Canyon with a season-high 16 kills on .412 hitting to go along with 13 digs for her second double-double of the season. Jessica Posse had a double-double, her third of the year, with a career-best 35 assists to go with 11 digs.
Mackenzie Lotter paced Chicago State with a career-high 51 assists while adding 11 digs for a double-double. Rachel Levitt totaled a season- and match-high 17 kills, while Paula Sioto totaled 16 kills. Mia Townsell recorded a season-high 26 digs.
New Mexico State 3, Texas-Pan American 1
New Mexico State defeated Texas-Pan American 3-1 (20-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-13), Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse. With the win, the Aggies move to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in WAC play. The Broncs fall to 0-1 in WAC play.
The Aggies finished with a .203 hitting percentage, compared to the .064 of UTPA, and out-blocked the Broncs 13-8.
Lauren Loerch led the Aggies with a season-high 18 kills, while Taylor Livoti posted a season-high 33 assists. Desiree Scott added nine blocks and nine kills.
Anjané Janda led the Broncs with 10 kills, while Nycole Masaki had 31 assists and Nausheen Merchant posted 16 digs.
