GCU's Stankiewicz Named USA Baseball 18U National Team Manager

DURHAM, N.C.-(GCU Media Relations) USA Baseball today announced its 2014 team managers and Grand Canyon University head baseball coach Andy Stankiewicz will take the reins for the 18U National Team.

Stankiewicz is familiar with the USA Baseball program, as he served as an assistant coach on the 2012 Collegiate National Team that spent time in Cuba and won the bronze medal at the Honkbal Baseball Week Tournament. He also worked with athletes during the 2013 17U National Team Development Program, helping prepare young players for future national team opportunities.

"I am tremendously honored to be named as the head coach for the 18U National Team," said Stankiewicz. "I am humbled that USA Baseball felt like I was the right man to coach the team and I'm excited to work with such great athletes. I am also very excited to represent Grand Canyon and our program with the 18U National Team and with USA Baseball."

Stankiewicz last season led the Antelopes to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships, which are hosted at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. The squad boasted a 40-19 overall record, the most wins for the program since winning 43 games in 1990. Stankiewicz was named ABCA/Rawlings Division II West Region Coach of the Year and was also tabbed as the 2013 Pacific West Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the 'Lopes to a share of the conference crown. Over the course of his two seasons at the helm of GCU's baseball program, Stankiewicz is 67-42.
