New Mexico State 82, Chicago State 61
Abby Scott scored a career-high 36 points and broke the WAC record for three-pointers in a game (11) to lead the Aggies to an 82-61 win over Chicago State at the Pan American Center Thursday night. With the win, New Mexico State improves to 4-12 on the season and 2-2 in the WAC. The Cougars drop to 3-14 overall and 0-4 in WAC play.
New Mexico State shot 40 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 64 percent from the free throw line on the game. Chicago State connected on 35 percent from the floor, 21 percent from beyond the arc and 64 percent from the charity stripe. The Aggies won the rebounding battle, 49-46.
Scott broke the previous WAC record of nine treys held by Amy Sutton of TCU during the 1998-99 season and Devyn Christensen of Utah State during the 2013 WAC Tournament. The Aggies were also helped by Danesia Williamson with 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Sasha Weber finished with 12 points, seven assists and two steals.
Tierra Williams paced the Cougars with 15 points, while Konner Harris added 14 points. Layne Murphy posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Chanel Wilson-Stewart grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Idaho 96, Utah Valley 55
The Vandals remained the only unbeaten team in WAC play with a 96-55 win over Utah Valley at the UCCU Center Thursday. With the win, Idaho improves to 12-7 on the season and 5-0 in WAC play. The Wolverines drop to 3-13 overall and 0-3 in the WAC with the loss.
The Vandals shot 54 percent from the field, 52 percent from three-point range and 77 percent from the free throw line on the game. Utah Valley connected on 32 percent from the floor, 29 percent from beyond the arc and 79 percent from the charity stripe. Idaho won the rebounding battle, 40-34, and forced 15 Wolverine turnovers.
Stacey Barr led all players with 21 points, while Alyssa Charlston finished with 20. Christina Salvatore added 12 points, while Brooke Reilly tallied 10 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double.
Rhaiah Spooner-Knight and Sam Loggins led Utah Valley with 10 points apiece.
Bakersfield 80, Seattle U 78
The Roadrunners overcame a 16-point second half deficit with less than 10 minutes to play to defeat Seattle U 80-78 at the Icardo Center Thursday. With the win, Bakersfield improves to 8-7 on the season and 2-1 in the WAC. The Redhawks fall to 8-10 overall and 3-2 in WAC play.
The Roadrunners shot 39 percent from the field, 28 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line on the game. Seattle U connected on 43 percent from the floor and 79 percent from the charity stripe. The Redhawks were 0-for-11 from three-point range. Seattle U out-rebounded Bakersfield 47-37, but committed 19 turnovers in the loss.
Tyonna Outland paced Bakersfield with a career-high 33 points and 12 boards for her first double-double of the season. Melissa Sweat added 26 points.
Taelor Ross led Seattle U with 22 points, while Kacie Sowell posted a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds. Ashley Ward added 16 points and six assists.
Texas-Pan American 65, Kansas City 50
The Broncs defeated Kansas City 65-50 at the UTPA Fieldhouse Thursday. With the win, Texas-Pan American improves to 8-9 on the season and 2-2 in the WAC. The Kangaroos drop to 6-11 overall and 2-2 in WAC play with the loss.
UTPA shot 37 percent from the field, 25 percent from three-point range and 69 percent from the free throw line on the game. UMKC connected on 33 percent from the floor, 10 percent from downtown and 52 percent from the line. The 'Roos edged the Broncs on the boards, 44-43, but committed 15 turnovers to UTPA's 10.
Shawnte' Goff paced the Broncs with 24 points, while Jasmine Thompson added 13. Brittany Bush pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Kim Nezianya posted her seventh double-double of the year with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Eilise O'Connor added 19 points for the 'Roos.
