DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Shavine Hodges and Vanessa Levy have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 13-19.
Hodges, a senior from Montego Bay, Jamaica (Colbourne College), won the 60-meter dash at the Lumberjack Team Challenge and took second in the 200-meter dash. Hodges has posted the fastest time in the WAC this season in the 60m, recording a time of 7.42 seconds on Friday in Flagstaff. Her time of 24.56 seconds in the 200m at the event is also the fastest recorded time in the WAC this season.
Levy, a junior from Clarendon, Jamaica (Johnson County Community College), broke her own school record in the weight throw on Friday at the Lumberjack Team Challenge. The junior recorded a throw of 17.65 meters and took home second-place honors in the event. Her throw ranks second in the WAC this season.
