Utah Valley 66, Kansas City 48
OREM, Utah –(UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University stayed unbeaten in the WAC, using a 20-1 run in the second half to pull away from Kansas City, winning 66-48 on Thursday in the UCCU Center.
The win sets up a first place showdown with Chicago State on Saturday night in Orem. The Cougars moved to 4-1 in the WAC with a win at Bakersfield on Thursday.
The Wolverines (11-7, 5-0), who have won six straight overall, got 18 points off the bench from Hayes Garrity, 14 from Ben Aird – all of which came in the second half – and 13 from Holton Hunsaker. Martez Harrison scored 15 for the Kangaroos (6-12, 3-3).
Zach Nelson chipped in seven points to go along with a career high five blocks and a game-high 12 rebounds while Mitch Bruneel hauled in 11 boards on a night UVU out-rebounded the UMKC 50-35.

Grand Canyon 86, Idaho 73
Phoenix, Ariz.-(GCU Media Relations)With the score knotted at 43 early in the second half, the Grand Canyon University men's basketball team (8-10, 3-2) used a 20-5 run to build their first double-digit lead of the game (63-48) and cement their Western Athletic Conference win over Idaho (8-13, 2-5) tonight at GCU Arena. It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools, with the Antelopes defeating the Vandals 86-73.
Jerome Garrison (30 points) and Blake Davis (19 points) both set career-high for scoring in the game, as Garrison also collected his fifth 20-point game of the season. Killian Larson added 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for his 12th double-double in 18 games.
The 'Lopes went 23-for-48 from the field (47.9 percent), while GCU's defense held the Vandals to a 40.0 percent mark (22-for-55). GCU made 35 of their season-high 41 free throw attempts (85.4 percent) and had 18 second chance points.

Chicago State 71, Bakersfield 63
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. –(CSU Media Relations) The Chicago State Cougars improved to 4-1 in the Western Athletic Conference after defeating the Bakersfield Roadrunners 71-63 at the Icardo Center on Thursday evening (Jan. 23). Junior Clarke Rosenberg (Skokie, Ill./Evanston Township) led the Cougars with 21 points including 14 in the second half as the Cougars never trailed in the final 20 minutes.
Senior Quinton Pippen (Hamburg, Ark./Hamburg) finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Senior Matt Ross (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) also had 14 points while senior Corey Gray (Houston, Texas/Hightower) pitched in 10 points in the victory. They helped the Cougars move to 3-0 in WAC road games this season.
