Seattle U 89, Grand Canyon 68
The Redhawks cruised to an 89-68 win over Grand Canyon at the Connolly Center Saturday evening. With the win, Seattle U improves to 10-10 on the season and 5-2 in WAC play. The Antelopes fall to 13-6 overall and 2-4 in the WAC.
The Redhawks shot 57 percent from the field, 56 percent from three-point range and 60 percent from the free throw line on the game. Grand Canyon connected on 34 percent from the floor, 28 percent from downtown and 82 percent from the line. Seattle U dominated the boards, 48-26.
Kacie Sowell led the Redhawks with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Ashley Ward added 14 points and nine rebounds. Wilma Afungo and Alexis Montgomery finished with 14 points each, while Sylvia Shephard added 11 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
Kaitlyn Petersen led all players with 28 points, while Deanna Daniels tallied 19.
Bakersfield 87, Kansas City 80
The Roadrunners rallied to defeat Kansas City 87-80 Saturday afternoon at the Swinney Recreation Center. With the win, Bakersfield improves to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the WAC. The Kangaroos drop to 7-13 on the season and 3-4 in WAC play.
The Roadrunners shot 45 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range and 81 percent from the free throw line on the game. Kansas City connected on 46 percent from the floor, 53 percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the charity stripe on the game. Bakersfield edged the 'Roos on the boards and forced 15 UMKC turnovers.
Tyonna Outland led the Roadrunners with 27 points, while Dajy Vines added 18 points. Alyssa Shannon added 13 points, while Brooklynn Hinkens finished with 11. Shannon and Batabe Zempare grabbed eight rebounds apiece.
Eilise O'Connor led all players with 31 points, while Kim Nezianya added 17 points and eight rebounds. Kelsey Barnwell finished with 10 points.
Texas-Pan American 66, New Mexico State 61
After trailing by 13 early in the game, the Broncs came back to defeat New Mexico State 66-61 at the UTPA Fieldhouse Saturday night. With the win, Texas-Pan American improves to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in WAC play. The Aggies fall to 6-13 on the season and 3-3 in the WAC.
The Broncs shot 31 percent from the field, 32 percent from three-point range and 74 percent from the free throw line on the game. NM State connected on 32 percent from the floor, 33 percent from downtown and 67 percent from the line. UTPA won the rebounding battle, 54-45.
Jasmine Thompson led the Broncs with 14 points, while Tonisha Walker added 12. Shawnte' Goff grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, while Brittany Bush had 10 rebounds.
Danesia Williamson led all players with 30 points, while Sasha Weber added 17. Tyler Ellis grabbed a team-high 13 boards.
Utah Valley 72, at Chicago State 46
The Wolverines picked up their first WAC win with a 72-46 victory over Chicago State at the Jones Convocation Center Saturday afternoon. With the win, Utah Valley improves to 4-15 overall and 1-5 in the WAC. The Cougars drop to 3-17 on the season and 0-7 in WAC play with the loss.
Utah Valley shot 54 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range and 75 percent from the free throw line on the game. Chicago State connected on 33 percent from the floor, 22 percent from beyond the arc and 17 percent from the charity stripe on the game. The Wolverines won the rebounding battle, 37-30.
Rebecca MaWhinney led Utah Valley with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Rhaiah Spooner-Knight added 13 points and Sam Loggins had 12.
Layne Murphy and Konner Harris led Chicago State with 12 points each. Chanel Wilson-improvesStewart pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
