DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Shavine Hodges and Kansas City’s Briana Carter have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 20-26.
Hodges, a senior from Montego Bay, Jamaica (Colbourne College), won both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash at the Northern Arizona Invitational. Hodges holds the fastest times in the WAC in both races. She was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team which finished second with a time of 3:55.40.
Carter, a junior from Warrensburg, Mo. (Warrensburg HS), was the winner in the triple jump with a leap of 39-3 (11.96m) at the Kansas State Invitational. It was Carter’s first event championship of the season. She also contributed to the 4x400-meter relay team that earned a second place finish.
