DENVER – New Mexico State is the preseason favorite to win the 2014 Western Athletic Conference softball title in a vote of the league’s six head coaches, who could not vote for their own team.

The Aggies took the top spot in the preseason poll with 25 points and five first-place votes, followed by Seattle U in second place with 19 points and the other first-place vote. Utah Valley was third with 14 points, just ahead of Bakersfield in fourth place with 13 points. Kansas City and Grand Canyon rounded out the poll with 10 and nine points, respectively.

The preseason All-WAC team, as selected by the coaches, was also announced.

The 2014 season begins Friday, Feb. 7, with all six teams in action. The 2014 WAC Softball Tournament, hosted by Seattle U, will be held May 8-10, at Logan Field in Seattle, and will include all five eligible teams.
