Bakersfield 86, New Mexico State 63
After being tied at halftime, the Roadrunners outscored New Mexico State 51-28 in the second half en route to an 86-63 win Thursday at the Icardo Center. With the victory, Bakersfield improves to 11-8 overall and 5-2 in the WAC, good for a three-way tie for second place. The Aggies drop to 6-14 on the season and 3-4 in WAC play with the loss.
The Roadrunners shot 53 percent from the field, 42 percent from three-point range and 73 percent from the free throw line on the game. NM State connected on 31 percent from the floor, 25 percent from beyond the arc and 73 percent from the line. Bakersfield out-rebounded the Aggies 47-39.
Batabe Zempare led all players with a career-high 26 points and 18 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Tyonna Outland added 17 points and six assists, Melissa Sweat had 15 points, Shaquita Smith finished with 15 points and six assists, and Dajy Vines added 11 points.
Abby Scott paced the Aggies with 19 points, while Danesia Williamson added 15 and Sasha Weber had 12.
Texas-Pan American 64, Utah Valley 54
The Broncs won their fourth-straight game Thursday, defeating Utah Valley 64-54 at the UCCU Center. With the win, Texas-Pan American improves to 11-9 overall and 5-2 in the WAC. The Wolverines fall to 4-16 on the seaosn and 1-6 in WAC play with the loss.
The Broncs shot 34 percent from the field, 19 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the free throw line on the game. Utah Valley connected on 29 percent from the floor, 17 percent from downtown and 88 percent from the charity stripe. The Wolverines won the rebounding battle, 42-38, but committed 19 turnovers in the defeat.
KaeLynn Boyd led UTPA with 17 points, while Shawnte' Goff added 15. Brittany Bush grabbed a game-high 13 boards.
Rebecca MaWhinney led all platers with 18 points to go along with nine rebounds, while Rhaiah Spooner-Knight added 14 points.
Grand Canyon 84, Chicago State 53
The Antelopes remained undefeated at home this season with an 84-53 win over Chicago State at GCU Arena Thursday. With the victory, Grand Canyon moves to 14-6 overall and 3-4 in WAC play. The Cougars drop to 3-18 on the season and 0-8 in the WAC with the loss.
The Antelopes shot 48 percent from the field, 39 percent from three-point range and 90 percent from the free throw line on the game. Chicago State connected on 40 percent from the floor, 50 percent from beyond the arc and 69 percent from the line. GCU edged the Cougars on the boards, 34-31, and forced 24 Chicago State turnovers.
Kaitlyn Petersen led the 'Lopes with 22 points and 10 assists for her second double-double of the season. She also nabbed four steals. Deanna Daniels added 18 points and five steals, while Johnna Brown was just shy of a double-double, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Chicago State was led by Tierra Williams with 17 points and Cailin Nix with 14. Layne Murphy nearly doubled up, posting nine points and 11 boards.
