DENVER — Bakersfield’s Michaela Paige and Carlee Burks have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for December 30-January 5.
Paige, a sophomore from Lompoc, Calif. (Cabrillo HS), helped the Roadrunners to a 169.5-130.5 win at Fresno State in a dual meet on Saturday. Paige won all three individual events she competed in, including the 100-yard freestyle (52.11), 200 free (1:51.95) and the 500 free (5:06.13). She also led off the winning 200 free relay (1:36.12). A day earlier, she placed second in the 200 fly and third in the 100 fly in a dual meet against San Jose State.
Burks, a freshman from Bakersfield, Calif. (Centennial HS), swept both diving events in a dual meet against San Jose State on Friday. Burks set season-high scores on both boards with 283.05 points on the 1-meter and 263.50 points on the 3-meter. Her score on the 1-meter is the second best in the WAC this year.
Other swimmers nominated: Grand Canyon freshman Hannah Kastigar; New Mexico State sophomore Dorottya Lennert; and Northern Arizona senior Rachel Palmer.
Other divers nominated: Northern Arizona sophomore Chelsea Jackson.
