DENVER – Missouri-Kansas City’s Courtney Frerichs and Utah Valley’s Tyson Lambert have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 14-20.
Frerichs, a senior from Nixa, Mo. (Nixa HS), continued to amaze as she claimed first place at Saturday’s race with a time of 20:55 in the women’s 6k run. Her time also set a personal record and beat her nearest opponent, Abbey Regan from Washington State, by 36 seconds. Frerichs also helped her team to a strong 12th place finish out of 33 teams at the ISU Pre-Nationals.
Lambert, a freshman from Grantsville, Utah (Stansbury HS), has compete in four out of Utah Valley’s 5 races this season, and finished in first place every time. Lambert finished in 15th place overall with a time of 24:03.2 in the 8k race this weekend, a blazing time for the redshirt freshman. Lambert finished in the top 15 out of over 170 athletes in a loaded field.
Other Women’s Nominees: Seattle U… Senior Sophie Curatilo finished first at the Emerald City Open this weekend with a time of 21:42 in the women’s 6k race… Grand Canyon… Junior Kelsi Klotter finished 56th overall with a time of 21:49.7 in the Bronco 6k Invitational… Utah Valley… Senior Ivie Gonzalves finished 22nd at the Bronco Invitational with a time of 21:05.3.
Other Men’s Nominees: Seattle U… Junior Gus Arroyo finished third overall at the Emerald City Open with a time of 26:15 in the men’s 8k race… Grand Canyon Senior Brandon Kocmoud took 33rd overall with a time of 24:22 in the men’s 8k at the Bronco Invitational… Missouri-Kansas City… Senior Taylor Wardall finished 17th at the ISU Pre-Nationals with a time of 25:26 in the men’s 8k race.
