DENVER — Grand Canyon’s Iryna Glavnyk and Northern Arizona’s Chelsea Jackson have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for October 20-27.
Glavnyk, a sophomore from Kiev, Ukraine (All-Republic Higher Specialized School in Physical Education) won three individual events in a 118-86 dual meet victory over Seattle U last weekend. In the two backstroke events Glanyk not only took first place finishes but set new pool records at Seattle U. In the 200 back she finished with a time of 2:00.79 and in the 100 back at 55.52 seconds both of which are the fastest times in the WAC so far this season. She then posted a winning time of 1:52.16 in the 200 free which is the second fastest time in the WAC this season less than a second behind Idaho’s Rachel Millet. Glavnyk also swam on three winning relays the 200 and 400 medleys as well as the 200 free relay that helped beat the Redhawks.
Jackson, a junior from Flagstaff, Ariz. (Northland Prep HS) swept both diving events in NAU’s season-opening dual meet against New Mexico on Saturday, leading a strong diving performance by the Lumberjacks. On 1-meter, Jackson was the top NAU finisher taking first place overall with a score of 283.43 which is the leading score in the WAC so far this season. Jackson followed with her second victory of the day on 3-meter in dominating fashion, winning the board with a score of 285.75, nearly 35 points better than the second place finisher. Her 3-meter score ranks second in the WAC this season.
