Three WAC Women's Soccer Players Earn Academic Honors

DENVER – Three WAC women's soccer players have been named to the Capitol One Academic All-District Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Seattle U’s Stephanie Verdoia earned first team honors while Seattle U’s Jacqui Wallis and Bakersfield’s Hedda Regefalk earned second team honors.

Verdoia, a senior forward for the Redhawks, is a political science major with a 3.96 grade-point average.  Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, she is ranked second nationally in total goals (18) and total points (47) and her 1.059 goals per game average is third among all NCAA Division I women’s soccer players.  The 2014 Preseason WAC Offensive Player of the Year, she has earned player of the week honors twice this season.  As a junior, she was named Capital One Academic All-America third Team and was awarded the WAC’s Joe Kearney Award, given annually to the top male and female student-athletes in the conference.

Wallis, a senior forward for Seattle U, holds a 4.00 grade-point average double majoring in philosophy and cell and molecular biology.  A member of the 2014 Preseason All-WAC team, she has scored three goals this season, including the game-winner last weekend against Chicago State. As a junior, she was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team.

Regefalk, a sophomore forward for Bakersfield, is majoring in business with a 3.95 grade-point average.  Her 11 goals this season rank her third in the WAC and 39th nationally. She has received WAC Offensive Player of the Week honors twice this season after earning preseason all-conference honors.  Last season, she was selected WAC Freshman of the Year and second team All-WAC.

Verdoia will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot where first, second, and third team All-America honorees will be selected in November.
