SEATTLE – (SU Media Relations) The Seattle University volleyball team received contributions from several players at different times of Saturday afternoon’s match, pulling out a 3-1 victory (25-17, 19-25, 29-27, 25-21) over the New Mexico State Aggies at the Connolly Center.
Matea Mamic led the Redhawk offense with 15 kills, while Martina Samadan finished with 14 kills and freshman Jelena Vujcin notched her first career double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Setter Kerry Lane ran a solid offense, collecting 41 assists to go along with two kills, a service ace, five digs and seven total blocks.
Kassandra Tohm was the only Aggie to earn double-digit kills, finishing with 11 kills. Taylor Livoti and Ashlyn Brown each collected 19 assists, while Jordan Abalos led the Aggies with 13 digs to go along with eight kills.
Missouri-Kansas City 3, Bakersfield 1 (25-19, 25-21, 13-25, 25-16)Recap | Stats
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – (UMKC Media Relations) The Missouri-Kansas City volleyball team (13-3, 2-0) continued its hot season, picking up its school record tying ninth straight victory with a 3-1 win over Bakersfield (6-11, 2-2) on Saturday afternoon at the Icardo Center in Bakersfield, Calif.
Emma Hagedorn led the way for the ‘Roos, nearly missing a double with team highs of nine kills and nine blocks, while Melissa Hartsel also tallied nine kills to go along with five of the team’s 15 blocks. Both UMKC setters recorded double-doubles as Nicole Wemhoff finished with 16 assists and 11 digs and Kaylyn Brandt notched 25 assists and 10 digs. Taryn Miller registered 23 digs.
Bakersfield setter Luiza Martins tallied her fifth double-double of the year with 39 assists and 11 digs, while Mariah Alvidrez recorded a match-high 28 digs. Danika Youngblood led all players with 17 kills.
Grand Canyon 3, Chicago State 0 (25-13, 30-28, 25-16)Recap | Stats
PHOENIX – (GCU Media Relations) With still 14 matches remaining, Grand Canyon equaled its win total from its initial Division I season in 2013 with an impressive 3-0 (25-13, 30-28, 25-16) win over visiting Chicago State Saturday at Antelope Gymnasium. The Antelopes are 12-6 overall and 2-3 in the Western Athletic Conference. Chicago State dropped to 6-10 and 0-3.
Natalie Tardy had a match-best 16 kills, while Shannon Dugan added 13 kills and 18 digs. Mackenzie Phelps had 18 digs, while Leigh Stonerook had 37 assists.
Elli Woinowsky paced the Cougars with 10 kills and 15 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
Utah Valley 3, Texas-Pan American 0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-20)Recap | Stats
OREM, Utah – (UVU Media Relations) The Utah Valley University volleyball team concluded its six-match homestand with a 3-0 sweep over Texas-Pan American Saturday afternoon at the PE Building (25-17, 25-12, 25-20). The win marked head coach Sam Atoa's 200th career victory at the Division I level.
The Wolverines (7-10, 2-1 WAC) were led by Lauren Bakker with eight kills and six blocks and, while sophomore Kiahna Steiner added seven kills and four blocks. Kalani Norris chipped in six kills of her own, while fellow senior Cassie Wahlin and Macky Treanor each added four kills apiece.
Alisha Watson paced the Broncs (3-14, 1-3 WAC) with a match-high 10 kills, while Haley Durham added seven kills and a team-high four blocks. Nausheen Merchant led the way with 10 digs and Mary Kate Clark posted 22 assists.
