Air Force men’s soccer opened Western Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 win over UMKC Saturday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. A.J. Esparza and Zach Hill scored late in the match to lift the Falcons to 5-1-3, 1-0 on the season.

In a game which both teams had several scoring chances, it was Air Force that was able to capitalize with the late scores. UMKC (2-6-1, 0-1) played a man down for the final 27 minutes when defender Nick Kramer drew a yellow and red card in the 63rd minute.

The Utah Valley men's soccer team played 24th-ranked Seattle U to a 1-1 double overtime tie Friday night at Clyde Field in the WAC opener for both teams.

The tie moves Utah Valley to 4-3-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in WAC play. Seattle U turns its record to 5-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference action.

Playing in front of the largest regular season crowd in school history, Bakersfield (7-2-1) defeated San José State (2-7) 5-1 in the Western Athletic Conference men’s soccer opener for both teams Saturday night.

The crowd of 2,014 saw the teams play a 1-1 first half after CSUB’s Joe Masumiya (R-Sr., Lakewood, Calif., Lakewood HS) and Uriel Ayala scored for their teams. Mario Iniguez (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Taft College) put the Roadrunners up for good with a blast from 30 yards out in the 51st minute.
