Utah Valley University and the University of Incarnate Word finished in a 1-1 draw in a Halloween afternoon contest at Clyde Field.

The first score of the match came in the 83rd minute when Incarnate Word's Ben Conway gave the Cardinals the lead, scoring with a shot just inside the right post on an Alex De La Garza assist.

The Wolverines were less than four minutes from taking a defeat in regulation when Paul Hoffmeister picked an opportune moment for his first career goal. Karson Payton fed Chandler Boyd, who streaked up the right side and found Hoffmeister in front of the goal for the equalizer.


Seattle U 3, Houston Baptist 1

Seattle University men’s soccer (9-5-1, 4-2-1 WAC) struck early and was able to hold on to the lead as they earned a 3-1 win versus Houston Baptist (2-9-2, 1-6-0 WAC) in Western Athletic Conference competition.

The Redhawks scored two quick goals in just over the first 10 minutes of play, including the game-winner, a free kick by Ian Hines-Ike (Littleton, Colo.) that sailed completely over the heads of the Houston Baptist defenders in the early 11th minute.

San Jose State 2, Grand Canyon 1

The Grand Canyon University men's soccer team (4-10-2, 2-5-1) came out on the wrong side of a tough defensive battle, falling 2-1 to visiting San Jose State (6-8-1, 4-2-1) tonight in a Western Athletic Conference matchup on the GCU Soccer Field.

The Spartans held the narrow advantage in shots, 10-9, putting four of those on goal. The Antelopes collected three shots on target.

Bakersfield 2, UNLV 1

Bakersfield scored two goals late in the second half to come from behind to defeat UNLV 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference men’s soccer play Friday night.

The Rebels, who are in first place in the WAC, took a 1-0 lead when Jason Khamvongsa put back an Andy Rodriguez rebound in the 11th minute (12-4-1, 7-2 WAC) to put UNLV in the lead. The Roadrunners would press to try and tie the score.
