FRERICHS QUALIFIES FOR NCAA’S AFTER BEING NAMED MIDWEST REGION’S FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Courtney Frerichs seized to amaze as she dominated the Midwest NCAA Regionals crossing the finish line at first place recording a time of 19:58 in the women’s 6K race.  With her performance she beat out her nearest opponent from North Dakota St. by nearly nine seconds clocking in the second fastest time in Newman Golf Course history and will advance to the national championships.

Seven student-athletes and coaches from Southeastern Conference institutions have earned regional awards for the 2014 NCAA Division I cross country season, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday.  Frerichs was selected as the women’s Midwest Region's Women's Athlete of the Year.

UTAH VALLEY MEN MOVE UP IN REGIONAL RANKINGS – NOV. 4
The Utah Valley men’s cross country team are the lone Western Athletic Conference school that earned recognition after being ranked in the top 15 of the regional rankings by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Wolverines appear in the men’s Mountain Region rankings at No. 13.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
Utah Valley’s men and Seattle U’s women ran to the 2014 WAC Cross Country Championship titles at Palm View Golf Course on Saturday morning. New Mexico State senior Daniel Rubio claimed the men’s individual title as he covered the 8K championship course in a time of 24:56. Missouri-Kansas City’s senior Courtney Frerichs won the women’s 5K championship with a time of 16:52.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2014 Cross Country National Championships will take place in Terre Haute, Ind. The race will take place at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.

TEAM NOTES
Bakersfield Roadrunners
LaShya Morgan led Bakersfield to a seventh-place finish at the WAC Championships last weekend... Morgan paced the ‘Runners for her 11th consecutive race and crossed the finish line 30th overall... the sophomore from Bakersfield placed only 43rd at the 2013 WAC Championships, showing a marked improvement from a year ago… Morgan’s time of 19:22 on Saturday resets her collegiate best in a 5k which had previously been 19:24… she has also led Bakersfield in each and every meet in her two-year career… Bakersfield finished the course with an average time of 20:09, the team’s fastest average of the season… Angel Valdez crossed the finish line second for the ‘Runners and 38th overall in a time of 19:58, just two seconds off her personal best…Bakersfield withdrew from the NCAA West Regionals and will not compete again this season.

Grand Canyon Lopes

The Grand Canyon University men's and women's cross country team wrapped up their season at the Western Athletic Conference Championships today in Edinburgh, Tex., hosted by Texas-Pan American. Both teams finished fifth overall in their respective events… senior Tyler Vandyke led the men's squad with a time of 25:37.0 to finish 12th. His placement earned him Second Team All-WAC honors… fellow senior Brandon Kocmoud placed 15th at 26:00.0… freshman Samuel Proctor had his best placement of the season, finishing third for the Lopes and 19th overall with a time of 26:21.0… for the women's team, junior Kelsi Klotter led the Lopes for the fifth time this season, finishing 20th with a time of 18:56.0… freshman Mariah Montoya came in 23rd at 19:00.0 and sophomore Lacey Peterson was only three seconds behind at 24th.

Kansas City Kangaroos
The UMKC cross country teams performed their best at the NCAA Midwest Regionals as the men placed 23rd and the women coming in at 20th out of the 35 teams that competed on Friday… All-Region honoree Courtney Frerichs continues to amaze as she dominated the race crossing, the finish line at first place recording a time of 19:58 in the women’s 6K race… other teammates that contributed to the women’s finish included freshman Chandler Carreon with a time of 21:47 (101th), sophomore Sarah Fogarty with 21:53 (213th), and sophomore Kelly Carpenter recording a time of 22:16 (357th)—each setting personal bests… Kolton Sheldon led the pack for the men’s team as he finished 49th place with a time of 31:00 in the men’s 10K race… next to cross the finish line was freshman Quinlan Moll recording his race with a time of 32:08 (172nd) and Jason Fambrough with his performance recording a time of 32:09 (125th)… the two seniors, Alex Nail and Taylor Wardall, followed as they finished the race with record times of 33:04 and 33:11, respectively.  

New Mexico State Aggies
New Mexico State finished its 2014 cross country season Friday with the men coming in at 15th overall and the women placing 18th overall after competing at the NCAA Mountain Regional at the University North Golf Course… freshman Jereme Santistevan lead the way for the men’s team with a 10K time of 31:23.05 giving him a 48th place finish overall… senior Hab Rubio just trailed Santistevan and was followed up by Evan Bekes, Tyler Forde and Herbert Beyale… the women’s team was paced by senior Diana Hawk who finished with a 6K time of 22:44.97… Hawk was followed by Cristina Amberg, Megan McNally, Cassandra Amberg, Jaqueline DuBois and Mikayla Pulliam.

Seattle University Redhawks
The Seattle University cross country teams concluded the 2014 season by competing at the NCAA Division I Cross Country West Regional Meet, held Friday at the Stanford Golf Course… coming off a conference title two weeks ago, the women’s cross country team finished in 18th place… Taylor de Laveaga was the first Seattle U runner to cross the finish line, finishing in 63rd place with a time of 21:33.9 over the 6k course… both de Laveaga and Sophie Curatilo finished higher than any Redhawk female at previous NCAA Division I West Regionals, with Curatilo crossing the finish line in 65th place in 21:35.7… the Seattle U men ended up in 24th place where Gus Arroyo made a significant improvement from last year’s regional meet, finishing in 85th place with a time of 31:09.8 over the 10-kilometer course… Ben Monk completed a successful freshman season with a 146th-place finish with a time of 32:30.4, just ahead of teammate Baxter Arguinchona in 147th place with a mark of 32:30.9.

Texas-Pan American Broncs
The Broncs competed at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas on November 14. Out of 38 teams in the region, the men’s team finished in 22nd place out of the participating schools while the women’s team finished in 20th. Junior Jose Juan Wells paced the men’s team as he finished in 72nd place out of 152 runners with a time of 31:43.1 in the 10K race. Freshman Jennifer Zapata led the way for the women’s team as she finished in 86th place out of 142 runners with a time of 22:39.3 in the 6K race.

Utah Valley Wolverines
The men’s cross country team are the reigning WAC Champions two years in a row, in its first two years of WAC competition. The women’s cross country team finished in second place by only two points to Seattle U at the WAC Championships, and freshman McKayla Morgan earned the WAC Freshman of the Year award. Head coach Scott Houle was named WAC Coach of the Year, and eleven athletes earned All-WAC honors. Four of which were named first-team. Both teams went on to compete at NCAA Mountain Regionals where both teams finished 13th overall.
