Grand Canyon 3, Missouri-Kansas City 2 (25-22, 16-25, 25-22, 18-25, 16-14)

KANSAS CITY – Grand Canyon defeated Missouri-Kansas City in five sets (25-22, 16-25, 25-22, 18-25, 16-14) Saturday at the Swinney Recreation Center, snapping UMKC's 17-match winning streak, handing the Kangaroos their first loss since Sept. 9, their first WAC loss and their first home loss of the season.

It was GCU's third straight victory and second in a row over one of the WAC's top teams. Last Saturday at Antelope Gym, GCU (15-9, 5-6) upset defending WAC champion New Mexico State. UMKC (21-4, 9-1), No. 78 in the latest NCAA Division I RPI, had been unbeaten in WAC play and downed the Lopes 3-2 in Phoenix in September.

The Antelopes out-blocked UMKC 10.5-3.0.

Natalie Tardy finished with a match-best 21 kills and added 17 digs, three block assists and two service aces. Shannon Dugan had 18 kills and six digs. Megan Byrnes hit .312 with 11 kills. Mackenzie Phelps had 35 digs and two service aces, while Michelle Steagall had 48 assists and 15 digs.

Sydney Crimmins led the 'Roos hitting .356 with 19 kills and a career-high 21 digs for her 10th double-double of the season, while Jessica Hendin tallied 18 kills and 20 digs for her ninth double-double. Melissa Hartsel hit .423 with 12 kills, while in the back row Taryn Miller finished with over 30 digs for the second straight match and the sixth time total this season with 32.

New Mexico State 3, Utah Valley 1 (28-26, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21)

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State volleyball team won its second-consecutive four-set match after defeating Utah Valley on Saturday afternoon, 28-26, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21, inside the Pan American Center. With the win, NM State improves to 14-9 overall and remains in second place in the WAC with an 8-3 conference record. The Wolverines fall to 10-16 and under .500 in the WAC at 5-6.

Nathalie Castellanos led the Aggies by tying a season high with 12 kills. She also finished with a match-high .423 hitting percentage. Shelbi Goode marked a career-high 11 kills, her first time marking double-digit kills in her Aggie career. Andrea Tauai, filling the libero position for the second-straight match for injured senior Hannah Walker, had a team-high 10 digs. Setters Taylor Livoti and Ashlyn Brown again shared the setting duties, Livoti finished with 21 assists while Brown was right behind with 19 helpers.

Macky Treanor led UVU with 14 kills while Sierra Starley finished with 27 assists and McKenna Tait added 19 digs. The Wolverines had a solid outing at the net, recording five solo blocks and 22 block assists for a season-high 16.0 blocks.

Bakersfield 3, Chicago State 0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-17)

CHICAGO – (CSUB Media Relations) Double-doubles from Danika Youngblood and Luiza Martins led Bakersfield (11-13, 7-4 WAC) to a straight sets sweep (25-15, 25-14, 25-17) of Chicago State (6-20, 0-10 WAC) in WAC volleyball play Saturday afternoon.

Youngblood led all players with 11 kills and tied with Mariah Alvidrez with a match-high 12 digs. Youngblood’s performance was her 13th double-double of the season and she also added three blocks. Martins earned her ninth double-double of the season with 29 assists and 10 digs.

Elli Woinowsky paced the Cougars with nine kills and 10 digs.

Seattle U 3, Texas-Pan American 0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-20)

EDINBURG, Texas – (SU Media Relations) The Seattle University volleyball team faced a battle from the UTPA Broncs the entire contest, but the Redhawks were able to pull out a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) Saturday afternoon in a Western Athletic Conference contest at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

Matea Mamic led the Redhawks (10-13, 6-4 WAC) with a career-high 17 kills to go along with eight digs, as she was the only player from either team to reach double figures in kills. Martina Samadan contributed eight kills, five digs and four total blocks, and Sydney Schafer, earning the first start of her career, collected eight digs to help the Redhawk defense.

Haley Durham led the Broncs (5-20, 2-9 WAC) with eight kills on .312 hitting with two blocks. Mary Kate Clark had 22 assists and Nausheen Merchant posted eight digs.
