DENVER — Grand Canyon’s Hannah Kastigar and Bakersfield’s Carlee Burks have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for November 18-24.
Kastigar, a sophomore from Aberdeen, S.D. (Central HS) made three NCAA “B” Cut Qualifying times at the Art Adamson Invitational this weekend. Kastigar placed seventh overall in the 200 fly (1:58.58), fifth in the 400 IM (4:15.25) and 19th in the 200 IM (2:01.22). Each of these top-20 swims are also first place times for the WAC so far this season. Hannah also swam in the 100 fly (55.57), 100 backstroke (57.76) and 200 backstroke (2:00.86). Both her 100 fly and 200 backstroke times are ranked second in the WAC and fourth in the 200 backstroke. Kastigar helped the Lopes to a 7th place team finish with her times in the 200 free, 200 medley, 400 medley, 800 medley and 400 free relays.
Burks, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif. (Centennial HS) finished second in the 1m board with a score of 265.90. Burks won the 3m board in dominating fashion (291.35). Both scores were career highs for the sophomore and both qualified her for the Zone E meet (a feat which no Roadrunner accomplished in 2013-14). Burks also cracked the CSUB all-time top five in both events, ranking third in the 3m and fourth in the 1m.
Other swimmers nominated: Jamie Sterbis, Idaho and Carleigh Barrett, Northern Colorado.
