DENVER — Bakersfield’s Mitchell Huxhold and UNLV’s Lucas James have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week for November 18-24.
Huxhold, a senior from Escondido, Calif. (San Pasqual HS) had an exceptional swims at the A3 Performance Invitational this weekend. In a large pool of swimmers containing representatives of some of California’s best, including a ranked team, Mitchell Huxhold dominated. Huxhold won all three individual events in which he swam, led two relay teams to top-six finishes, and was eventually named Swimmer of the Meet. Huxhold made NCAA B cuts in the 200 (1:37.85), 500 (4:19.23), and 1650 (15:10.89) free this week and is ranked second in the WAC in the 200 and first in the 500, 1000 (9:08.12 split in 1650), and 1650 freestyle.
James, a junior from El Cajon, Calif. (Valhalla HS) competed at the Arizona Diving Invitational and posted three top-eight finishes. James took a sixth place finish overall on the 1-meter with a score of 293.50, seventh on the 3-meter (274.60) and second on platform (227.30).
