LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (NM State Media Relations) Daniel Mullings scored 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and New Mexico State routed Florida A&M 78-33 Wednesday evening at the Pan American Center.
At 1:59 in the first half Mullings moved into sole possession of ninth place all-time on the Aggies career-scoring list with 1,481 points – 40 points behind Wendell McKines for eighth overall.
The Aggies played a suffocating defense and forced 21 turnovers and held the Rattlers (0-6) to 23 percent (12-of-52) from the floor. NM State finished the evening shooting 51 percent (28-of-54) from the floor. The Aggies played well under the basket and scored 40 points in the paint and grabbed 41 rebounds.
Braxton Huggins and DK Eldridge each scored 13 points.
Utah Valley 60, Idaho State 57Recap | Stats
POCATELLO, Idaho – (UVU Media Relations) Brenden Evans led three players in double figures with a career-high 16 points to help the Utah Valley University men's basketball team to a 60-57 win over Idaho State Wednesday night at Reed Gym.
Donte Williams and Mitch Bruneel helped secure the lead and the victory as each knocked down a pair of free throws with less than 20 seconds remaining.
Bruneel and Williams each scored in double figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Marcel Davis recorded seven points and dished out a game-high six assists. Zach Nelson tallied a game-high 10 rebounds with five points on the night.
Utah 85, Texas-Pan American 48 Recap | Stats
SALT LAKE CITY – (UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs fell 48-85 to the University of Utah Utes Wednesday at the Jon. M Huntsman Center for their first loss of the season.
The Broncs (3-1) were led by Shaquille Boga as he finished with 16 points, three assists and three rebounds, while going 2-for-4 from behind the three-point line. Janari Joesaar added 11 points with four rebounds and four assists and Shaquille Hines chipped in eight points.
Youngstown State 66, Missouri-Kansas City 63Recap | Stats
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – (UMKC Media Relations) The UMKC men's basketball team battled from behind most of the night, but couldn't quite get over the hump, and Youngstown State’s Marcus Keene hit a go-ahead three with four seconds left to hand the ‘Roos a 66-63 hearbreaking loss.
The ‘Roos pulled down 16 offensive rebounds in the game. UMKC just couldn’t quite connect on enough open shots though, shooting only 35 percent, and 4-of-14 from three.
Martez Harrison finished the night with 20 points, while Reese Holliday had 13 points and eight boards.
Western Carolina 66, Chicago State 61Stats
ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Cougars dropped their final game at the CBE Hall of Fame Classic 66-61 to Western Carolina Wednesday. With the loss, Chicago State drops to 2-5 on the season.
The Cougars shot 36 percent from the field, 25 percent from three-point range and 58 percent from the free throw line on the game, compared to the 51, 36 and 61 percent, respectively of the Catamounts. Chicago State won the rebounding battle 40-30.
Trayvon Palmer led the Cougars with 13 points, while Clarke Rosenberg added 10 points. Joshua Meier grabbed a team-high eight boards.
