UTAH VALLEY MEN MOVE UP IN REGIONAL RANKINGS - NOV. 4
The Utah Valley men's cross country team are the lone Western Athletic Conference school that earned recognition after being ranked in the top 15 of the regional rankings by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Wolverines appear in the men's Mountain Region rankings at No. 13.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
Utah Valley's men and Seattle U's women ran to the 2014 WAC Cross Country Championship titles at Palm View Golf Course on Saturday morning. New Mexico State senior Daniel Rubio claimed the men's individual title as he covered the 8K championship course in a time of 24:56. Missouri-Kansas City's senior Courtney Frerichs won the women's 5K championship with a time of 16:52.

TEAM NOTES
Bakersfield Roadrunners
LaShya Morgan led Bakersfield to a seventh-place finish at the WAC Championships last weekend... Morgan paced the ‘Runners for her 11th consecutive race and crossed the finish line 30th overall... the sophomore from Bakersfield placed only 43rd at the 2013 WAC Championships, showing a marked improvement from a year ago… Morgan's time of 19:22 on Saturday resets her collegiate best in a 5k which had previously been 19:24… she has also led Bakersfield in each and every meet in her two-year career… Bakersfield finished the course with an average time of 20:09, the team's fastest average of the season… Angel Valdez crossed the finish line second for the ‘Runners and 38th overall in a time of 19:58, just two seconds off her personal best… Bakersfield withdrew from the NCAA West Regionals and will not compete again this season.

Grand Canyon Lopes
The Grand Canyon University men's and women's cross country team wrapped up their season at the Western Athletic Conference Championships today in Edinburgh, Tex., hosted by Texas-Pan American. Both teams finished fifth overall in their respective events… senior Tyler Vandyke led the men's squad with a time of 25:37.0 to finish 12th. His placement earned him Second Team All-WAC honors… fellow senior Brandon Kocmoud placed 15th at 26:00.0… freshman Samuel Proctor had his best placement of the season, finishing third for the Lopes and 19th overall with a time of 26:21.0… for the women's team, junior Kelsi Klotter led the Lopes for the fifth time this season, finishing 20th with a time of 18:56.0… freshman Mariah Montoya came in 23rd at 19:00.0 and sophomore Lacey Peterson was only three seconds behind at 24th.
Kansas City Kangaroos
The Kansas City cross country teams finally had some pay off as they finished exceptionally at the WAC Championships, as both the men and the women placed third out of the eight teams that competed… outstanding senior and First Team All-WAC competitor Courtney Frerichs claimed her first WAC Championship in the women's 5K with a personal record time of 16:52… with her effort, Frerichs was named the WAC's Female Athlete of the Year… Chandler Carreon, Kelly Carpenter, and Sarah Fogarty also earned honors, as they were named Second Team All-WAC having finished ninth (18:20), 11th (18:28) and 14th (18:32)… on the men's side, veterans Kolton Sheldon and Taylor Wardall ran their best performances of the season finishing second (25:04) and third (25:07) in the men's 8K race, respectively… additionally, both were named First Team All-WAC… Quinlan Moll and Jason Fambrough raced remarkably and had great contributions to the men's score as each finished with new personal records, crossing the finish line in 18th and 30th place, with final times of 26:18 and 26:47… the UMKC cross country teams will return to action on Friday, Nov. 14th in the NCAA Midwest Regional at Peoria, Ill. at 12 p.m.
New Mexico State Aggies
Senior Hab Rubio became the first New Mexico State runner to win the Western Athletic Conference men's individual cross country championship Saturday as he led the Aggies to a second place finish at the WAC Championships while the women finished fourth in the competition… Rubio crossed the line in front of the 8K race with a time of 24:56, and completed the day being named Runner of the Year… freshman runner Jereme Santistevan was named the 2014 WAC Freshman of the Year award after his performance as he placed seventh overall with a final time of 25:26… Rubio, Santistevan and Diana Hawk were named First Team All-WAC for NM State and will represent the Aggies at the NCAA Mountain Regional… senior Megan McNally being named Second Team All-WAC… the NCAA Mountain Regional will take place in Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday, Nov. 14.
Seattle University Redhawks
The Seattle University women's cross country team used four all-conference performances to win the 2014 WAC Cross Country Championship, the program's first-ever team conference title… Sophie Curatilo led the Redhawks, finishing second in 17:48. Lila Rice crossed the finish line in fifth place in 17:59, followed by Taylor de Laveaga in seventh place with a time of 18:04... Elena Smith earned Second Team All-WAC honors with a 10th-place finish in 18:23… the Redhawk men's cross country team finished in fourth place as a team, led by junior Gus Arroyo, who earned First Team All-WAC honors by finishing in fifth place with a time of 25:22… seven men and seven women will head to Stanford, Calif., next week for the NCAA Division I West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course.
Texas-Pan American Broncs
The Broncs men's and women's both finished in sixth place after hosting the 2014 WAC Championships in McAllen, Texas... junior Jose Juan Wells led the men's team with a 14th place finish as he posted a time of 25:51 in the men's 8K race… Wells' performance earned him Second Team All-WAC honors... freshman Jennifer Zapata led the women's team with a 17th place finish after posting a time of 18:40 in the women's 5K… both the women's and men's cross country team are gearing up for regional action at the South Central Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark. on Friday, Nov. 14.
Utah Valley Wolverines
The men's cross country ran for their second WAC Championship Saturday at the WAC Championship meet hosted by Texas-Pan American University, becoming the first sport at Utah Valley to earn two WAC Championships back to back… the UVU women's team was edged out for the WAC Championship by Seattle U, who clinched the title with a mere two point lead… Trac Norris finished in fourth place overall with a time of 25:16 on the 8K course. Logan Petty was close behind finishing in sixth place overall with a time of 25:23… Junior Darian Sharp finished in third place overall with a time of 17:54 on the 5K course. She was followed by senior Ivie Gonsalves with a time of 18:00 and finished in sixth place overall…. head coach Scott Houle was recognized as the WAC Coach of the Year for leading the men's team to victory… Morgan also received Freshman of the Year honors from the Western Athletic Conference… the cross country team competes next at the NCAA Mountain Regional championship meet in Albuquerque on Nov. 15.
