DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Felix Schueller and teammate Priscilla Annoual have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s Tennis Athletes of the Month, respectively, for the month of November.
Schueller, a junior from Amstetten, Austria (BG/BRG Ostarrichi Amstten), advanced to the second flight’s championship singles match after an impressive performance throughout the weekend. He faced UC Irvine’s Nico Mertens in a close match. The first set concluded in a tiebreaker that gave Mertens the lead, but Schueller battled back to force the second set with a 6-4 win. After being down in the third set, Schueller came back to extend the match into its second tiebreaker where he fell just short. Schueller concluded the GCU Invite three singles and one doubles victories.
Annoual, a senior from Peoria, Ariz. (Primavera HS), opened the GCU Invite with a long three-set match against Abilene Christian’s Lucile Pothier where she came from behind to earn the victory in the first flight draws. She advanced to next round where she won in straight sets, paving the way to her championship match against Northern Arizona’s Emelia Box. She won the individual title after falling short in the opening set’s tiebreaker, coming back to win the second and third sets 6-2. In doubles, she teamed up with Tatum Prudhomme facing opponents from Abilene Christian at each level. They won their first two matches to advance to the championship where they fell short, losing 8-5.
