Missouri-Kansas City 79, Omaha 72

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – (UMKC Media Relations) UMKC men's basketball came from nine behind on two occasions Saturday afternoon at Municipal Auditorium and pulled out a hard-fought 79-72 victory over Omaha in a game televised nationally on the American Sports Network.

Martez Harrison headlined the UMKC (4-7) attack with 25 points and six assists. Frank Williams finished the game with a season-high 16 points, while Deshon Taylor set his career-best with 12 on the night. Also contributing big minutes was Darius Austin, who pulled down eight rebounds against a bigger lineup, and also scored a career-best nine points.

Nine points was the largest deficit UMKC had come back from this season in a win. The ‘Roos moved to 3-0 at home as well with the victory.

Texas-Pan American 66, Lamar 60

EDINBURG, Texas – (UTPA Media Relations) Janari Joesaar scored a career-high 29 points to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men’s basketball team to a 66-60 victory over the Lamar University Cardinals on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.The Broncs (5-4) are now 3-0 at home this season.
 
Joesaar went 9-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc, plus 8-of-14 from the line with six rebounds (five offensive), two assists, two blocks and one steal.

Shaquille Boga also reached double figures, scoring a season-high 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc, plus 5-of-8 from the line, with four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Elijah Watson made his first-career start, dishing out a career-high six assists while committing just one turnover, grabbing a career-high five rebounds, and hitting both of his shots for four points.

Seattle U 54, San Jose State 38

SAN JOSE, Calif. – (SU Media Relations) The Seattle University men’s basketball team was able to take the lead in the first half and kept expanding it as it defeated San Jose State, 54-38, Saturday night in a non-conference contest at The Event Center.
 
Isiah Umipig kept his pace of making four three-pointers per game, leading the Redhawks with 16 points, plus he pulled down five rebounds and dished out four assists. Deshaun Sunderhaus earned his first start of the season and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field as he scored 15 points, all in the second half, to go along with five rebounds and four assists.


Indiana 94, Grand Canyon 66

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – (GCU Media Relations) The Grand Canyon University men's basketball team fell 94-66 tonight to Indiana at historic Assembly Hall. The loss dropped the Antelopes to 4-6, the Hoosiers improved to 8-2.

DeWayne Russell, who transferred to GCU from Northern Arizona last season, played in his first game as an Antelope and quickly showed his potential to be a standout on the squad, scoring 16 points. He dropped 14 in the first half and finished the game shooting 7-for-16 from the floor, adding three rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes. Royce Woolridge was the game's high scorer with 18. Josh Braun added seven points and seven boards.

GCU shot 38.8 percent during the contest, including only 2-for-16 from behind the arc. The Antelopes were out-rebounded 52-35 and 21-11 on the offensive glass. For the second-straight game the Lopes were 12-for-15 from the line (80 percent), equaling their second-best mark of the season. Both teams secured the ball well, as the Lopes committed only six turnovers, a season low, while the Hoosiers had four.

Oral Roberts 86, New Mexico State 83

TULSA, Okla. – (NM State Media Relations) The scrappy New Mexico State Aggies battled through foul trouble and few numbers on Saturday night, but the home-standing Oral Roberts held off the a come-back attempt for an 86-83 win at the Mabee Center.

The Aggies were paced by Ian Baker with 15 points, while DK Eldridge added 14.  Jalyn Pennie posted a career best 11 points with a game-high eight rebounds as six of the nine NM State players scored double digits.

NM State dropped its sixth straight road game of the season with the loss.

Portland State 65, Bakersfield 59

PORTLAND, Ore. – (CSUB Media Relations) The CSUB Roadrunners spotted Portland State a 10-point lead to start Saturday afternoon’s matchup and were unable to ever take the lead in a 65-59 loss to the Vikings at the Stott Center.

CSUB cut the lead to four points on three more occasions inside the final minute of play but each time they fouled the Vikings they converted from the free throw line to hold off Bakersfield.

Aly Ahmed finished with 18 points, while Cortez Conners scored a career-high 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 3-of-5 from three-point range.

The Roadrunners shot a season-high 31 attempts from three-point range converting nine for a 29 percent clip.

Utah State 50, Utah Valley 47

OREM, Utah – (UVU Media Relations) Mitch Bruneel was unable to get off a three-pointer in time that would have tied the game as Utah State escaped with a 50-47 win over Utah Valley Saturday night in front of a raucous crowd of 6,121 at the UCCU Center.
 
Tied 45-45, Utah State's Jalen Moore hit a jumper to put the Aggies up by two points, 47-45, with 24 seconds to play. Moore then hit 1-of-2 free throws with seven seconds remaining to give USU a 48-45 advantage. UVU's Donte Williams cut the USU lead to just one point, 48-47, after knocking down a pair of free throws with five seconds to play. Utah State's Chris Smith broke loose as Utah Valley tried to foul and put in a dunk to put the Aggies up 50-47 with 1.8 seconds to go. Bruneel was then unable to get off a three in time as the Aggies secured the three-point victory.
 
Williams led the Wolverines with a game-high 14 points. He also pulled down six rebounds and dished out three assists on the night. Zach Nelson scored 12 points with five rebounds, one assist and a steal. Bruneel was just a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Marcel Davis helped with five points. Brenden Evans and Jaden Jackson rounded out the scoring for UVU with four and two points, respectively.
 
In a strong defensive effort, both teams struggled from the field as Utah Valley hit 29.4 percent of its shots from the field and Utah State recorded a 29.8 percent clip.
