DENVER – Missouri-Kansas City’s Courtney Frerichs and Utah Valley’s Lauren Hicks have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for December 8-14.

Frerichs, a senior from Nixa, Mo. (Nixa HS), opened her indoor season with a victory in the 5000 meter run at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind.  Frerichs not only beat the Roo’s school record by 31 seconds with a time of 15:48, but crushed a 15-year old WAC record (16:09) in the process.  Her time ranks fourth fastest in the nation this season and should comfortably qualifier her for the indoor NCAA championships in March.

Hicks, a sophomore from Gilbert, Ariz. (Gilbert HS), broke the indoor school record in the triple jump multiple times last season, and in her season debut this weekend, broke her own school record with a mark of 11.95m.  Her score set a career record and marked a first place finish helping the Wolverines to a win over Boise State at the Jacksons Open in Nampa, Idaho.

Other Track  Nominees:  Jessica Beatty, Utah Valley.

Other Field Nominees:  Briana Carter, Missouri-Kansas City.
