DENVER — UNLV’s Dillon Virva and Lucas James have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week for December 8-14.
Virva, a junior from Nevada City, Calif. (Nevada Union HS) won a pair of events on the first two days of the UNLV Winter Invitational, taking both the 50 free and 100 fly. While Virva already holds the 50 free WAC season top time, his finish in 19.85 seconds still ranks in the top two season fastest times in the conference. His time of 48.13 in the 100 butterfly is also one of the fastest times in the WAC this season, second two his time from the Missouri Invitational in November. Virva also swam on three-first place relays, the 200 free, 400 medley and the 200 medley relays that helped the Rebels to a first place overall finish at the Winter Invitational.
James, a junior from El Cajon, Calif. (Valhalla HS) swept the 1 and 3-meter boards at the UNLV Winter Invitational, with scores of 306.25 on the 1-meter and a season best score of 357.90 on the 3-meter. James’ mark on the 3-meter ranks first in the WAC this season by nearly 50 points.
