Bakersfield 68, UC Irvine 65

IRVINE, Calif. - (CSUB Media Relations) CSU Bakersfield rallied from being down 13 in the first half to defeat UC Irvine 68-65 Tuesday night.

UC Irvine jumped out to 12-0 lead as CSUB missed its first five field goal attempts. The Roadrunners did not score until Brittany Sims made a pair of free throws 4:26 into the game. With UCI leading 15-2, CSUB chipped away at the Anteaters, scoring 15 of the next 21 points to get within four, 21-17 at 9:22.

Erika Williams reset her career highs with 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Roadrunners. Tyonna Outland, who missed last Saturday’s game at No. 12/15 Nebraska due to a sprained right foot, started and scored 15 points. Batabe Zempare charted her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The 6-2 forward was 6-of-7 from the floor.

New Mexico State 79, Cal Poly 65

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - (NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State women’s basketball team used a 14-0 run midway through the second half to break open a tight game and win its fourth-consecutive contest, defeating Cal Poly 79-65 on Tuesday night inside the Pan American Center.

The Aggies (4-5) remain undefeated in the month of December while the Mustangs (4-5) dropped their second-straight game.

NM State had a great all-around shooting night, finishing 42.4 percent from the field (25-59), 40 percent from 3-point range (10-25) and a season-high 82.6 percent from the free-throw line, sinking 19-of-23 shots from the charity stripe.  The Aggies also continue to improve and leave their mark on the boards, outrebounding Cal Poly 44-37.

Illinois-Chicago 70, Chicago State 44

CHICAGO - (UIC Media Relations) The UIC women's basketball team won its fifth straight game Tuesday night with a 70-44 home victory over Chicago State. The Flames have won five straight meetings with the Cougars.

UIC held CSU to two field goals and 16 points in the second half. The Flames limited the Cougars to an opponent season-low 12-of-35 (.343) from the field. CSU became the seventh UIC opponent to shoot less than 40 percent.
