Grand Canyon 68, New Mexico 65

PHOENIX – (GCU Media Relations) The Grand Canyon University men's basketball team (7-7) picked up a signature win tonight with a 68-65 victory over New Mexico (8-4) at GCU Arena to snap a five-game win streak for the Lobos. UNM went 27-7 last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Mountain West Tournament. GCU also avenged an 80-68 loss to UNM in Albuquerque from a season ago.

Joshua Braun once again led the Lopes offensively with 18 points, his fourth straight game in double figures. Daniel Alexander scored a season-best 17 points and also pulled down seven rebounds for GCU. DeWayne Russell added 10 points.

GCU shot 38.5 percent from the field (20-for-52) and made a season-high-tying nine three-pointers. The Lobos went 23-for-56 from the floor (41.4 percent). The Lopes forced 11 UNM turnovers while committing just seven of their own.

Utah Valley 51, Idaho State 47

OREM, Utah – (UVU Media Relations) Donte Williams scored 12 points and Mitch Bruneel added 11 to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team to a 51-47 win over Idaho State Tuesday night at the UCCU Center.
 
With the win, Utah Valley improves to 4-7 on the season. The Wolverines are now 2-1 at home. Idaho State falls to 3-9 with the loss.
 
Tied 47-47 with 59 seconds to play, Brenden Evans hit a jumper in the paint to put the Wolverines up by two points, 49-47. Williams then knocked down a shot with 13 seconds remaining to give the Wolverines the 51-47 victory.

Williams scored his team-high 12 points on 3-of-8 shooting from the field. He also knocked down 5-of-6 free throws and tallied three steals, a rebound and an assist. Bruneel scored in double figures for the seventh time this season, tallying 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 clip from the charity stripe. Bruneel also pulled down five rebounds on the night.
 
Zach Nelson helped with seven points while Brenden Evans and Dayon Goodman each scored six. Nelson also had a team-high six rebounds in the victory.
 
Utah Valley shot 36.7 percent from the field while limiting Idaho State to a 30.2 percent clip.
