DENVER – Bakersfield guard Alyssa Shannon has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 22 through Dec. 28.
Shannon, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Stockdale HS), helped lead the hometown Roadrunners to a 78-69 win over visiting Hawai’i. She totaled 16 points, going eight for eight from the free throw line, and dished out eight assists, made three steals and grabbed three rebounds. The 5-2 guard also tallied her first career block against the Rainbow Wahine.
Other nominees included: Missouri-Kansas City forward Grace Mitchell recorded her first double-double of the season and the third of her career with 13 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to SIU Edwardsville.
