DENVER - Bakersfield junior center Aly Ahmed has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 22-28. This is his first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.

The Alexandria, Egypt, native recorded his third double-double of the season while leading Bakersfield to a 55-52 upset of California on the road Sunday night. Ahmed finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in the program's first-ever win over a Pac-12 team and the first loss for Cal this season to a team outside the Top 25. He established himself early, scoring eight of CSUB's first 15 points as part of a 15-0 run that helped CSUB build a lead it would never give up. Ahmed also managed key defensive rebounds and made a few clutch free throws to give the ‘Runners a five-point lead with five seconds to play. He played 36 minutes in the contest, as well.
