BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – (CSUB Media Relations) Sparked by a 23-0 run early in the first half the CSUB Roadrunners closed out the 2014 calendar year with their third straight win, dismantling visiting LaVerne Wednesday afternoon 87-36 at the Icardo Center.
The ‘Runners trailed for only a few seconds in the first half before entering the Leopard-crippling run and closing out the final 17 minutes of the first half by outscoring LaVerne 39-9 to lead 43-14 at the half. The 14 points were the fewest allowed by the Roadrunners in a single half in their NCAA Division I history.
Bakersfield continued the onslaught in the second half led by a defense that forced 24 turnovers and grabbed 14 steals in the game which led to 33 CSUB points. The Roadrunners shot a season-best 16-of-26 in the second half (61 percent) and 31-of-57 (54 percent) from the field in the game. CSUB was also a season-best 9-of-17 from three-point range good for 53 percent.
CSUB was led by Deshawn Richmond’s 22 points on 8-of-11 from the field. Adbul Ahmed added 13 points, while Aly Ahmed scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the victory.
Green Bay 54, Chicago State 50Stats
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Cougars overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to take the lead with just over seven minutes left in the game, only to be held scoreless for the final 2:49 to fall 54-50 at Green Bay Wednesday afternoon at the Resch Center. With the loss, Chicago State drops to 4-12 on the season.
The Cougars shot 33 percent from the field, 29 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the free throw line on the game. Green Bay connected on 37 percent from the floor, 21 percent from downtown and just 45 percent from the charity stripe on the game, making just 13-of-29 from the line. Both teams grabbed 41 boards.
Sean Hill paced Chicago State with 12 points, while Trayvon Palmer posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
