DENVER — Grand Canyon’s Hannah Kastigar and Northern Arizona’s Chelsea Jackson have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for December 2-8.
Kastigar, a sophomore from Aberdeen, S.D. (Central HS) was very competitive at the AT&T Winter Nationals this weekend in Greensboro, N.C. Racing against some of the top swimmers from across the country Kastigar swam her way into the finals in the 200 butterfly and 400 IM where she posted the fastest time in the WAC this season at 4:14.60. She also posted times in the 100 butterfly (55.75) which places third in the WAC, the 200 backstroke (2:01.93) placing second fastest time in the WAC and the 200 IM (2:03.11). Kastigar also helped the Lopes to a season best time in the 200 free relay (1:35.07), a 17th place finish in the 400 free relay (3:26.61) and a 14th place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:42.07) which is the fastest time in the WAC this season.
Jackson, a junior from Flagstaff, Ariz. (Northland Prep HS) helped the Lumberjacks to a dual victory over conference rival New Mexico State. Jackson won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 276.67, beating her nearest competitor by over 30 points. The win was her fourth during the dual meet season. She also finished third on the 3-meter with a score of 235.27.
