DENVER — Wyoming’s Adam Kalms and UNLV’s Lucas James have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week for December 2-8.
Kalms, a senior from Marmong Point, Australia (St. Francis Xavier’s HS), lead the Pokes at the prestigious Texas Invite last weekend. Kalms finished seventh in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:36.30. He also swam the fastest WAC 200 free time this season of 1:35.88 in the preliminaries. He finished 19th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.35. His mark is the third fastest in school history and eighth fastest in the WAC this season. Kalms finished 11th in the 100 freestyle with the fourth fastest mark in school history at 43.62 to lead the Pokes on the final day of action. His preliminary time of 43.54 and is second fastest in the WAC this season.
James, a junior from El Cajon, Calif. (Valhalla HS) swept both diving events while leading UNLV to a 185-109 win over Pac-12 member Arizona State. James posted winning scores of 280.28 on the 1-meter and 344.18 on the 3-meter which is now the top score in the WAC by 36 points.
