DENVER – Texas-Pan American’s Martin Casse and Idaho’s Arphaxad Carroll have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 3-9.
Casse, a senior from Toulouse, France (Lycee-Toulouse Lautrec), finished in 17th place out of 307 runners in the mile run with a time 4:01.04 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. The time is the best in the WAC and tied for 26th best in the nation this year. It also set a new program record by 10 seconds. Casse now holds two of the top three times in program history after his time of 4:11.73 at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational in January.
Carroll, a freshman from Las Vegas, Nev. (Valley HS), jumped at two meets for the Vandals last weekend. On Friday, he finished first in the long jump with a mark of 23-5.5 (7.15m) and placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 46-7.25 (14.20m). Carroll returned Saturday and took the triple jump event with a mark of 46-1.25 (14.05m), which ranks fourth in the WAC so far this season.
