Bakersfield 79, Idaho 60
The Roadrunners handed Idaho its first WAC loss of the season Thursday, defeating the Vandals 79-60 at Cowan Spectrum Arena, snapping Idaho's 10-game winning streak. With the win, Bakersfield improves to 14-8 on the season and 8-2 in the WAC. The Vandals drop to 17-8 overall and 10-1 in WAC play.
The 'Runners shot 41 percent from the field, 41 percent from three-point range and 82 percent from the free throw line on the game. Idaho connected on 26 percent from the floor, 13 percent from downtown and 73 percent from the line. Bakersfield grabbed a season-high 58 rebounds to the Vandals' 43, tying its largest rebounding margin of the season.
Tyonna Outland led Bakersfield with 24 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Melissa Sweat added 18 points, while Dajy Vines finished with 15. Batabe Zempare also grabbed 10 boards.
Stacey Barr paced the Vandals with 24 points and 12 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the year. Alyssa Charlston added 15 points.
Seattle U 69, Utah Valley 65
The Redhawks held on to defeat Utah Valley 69-65 Thursday at the Connolly Center. With the victory, Seattle U improves to 12-12 on the season and 7-4 in WAC play. The Wolverines fall to 4-19 overall and 1-9 in the WAC.
The Redhawks shot 50 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 71 percent from the free throw line. Utah Valley connected on 44 percent from the floor, 33 percent from beyond the arc and 63 percent from the charity stripe. Seattle U won the rebounding battle, 36-30, but committed 19 turnovers to UVU's 16.
Sylvia Shephard led all players with 20 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Makenna Clark added 14 points, while Ashley Ward finished with 12. Wilma Afungo tallied 10 points, while Kacie Sowell grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Georgia Agnew paced Utah Valley with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Whitney Jenkins added 15 points, while Rhaiah Spooner-Knight had 14.
Texas-Pan American 75, Chicago State 52
The Broncs defeated Chicago State 75-52 Thursday night at the Jones Convocation Center. With the win, Texas-Pan American improves to 12-12 overall and 6-5 in WAC play. The Cougars drop to 3-20 on the season and 0-10 in the WAC with the loss.
The Broncs shot 52 percent from the field, 43 percent from three-point range and 75 percent from the free throw line on the game. Chicago State connected on 38 percent from the floor, 47 percent from downtown and 60 percent from the line. UTPA edged the Cougars on the boards, 30-29, and forced 25 Chicago State turnovers.
Brittany Bush led the Broncs with 16 points and eight rebounds. Shawnte' Goff finished with 13 points, Tonisha Walker added 12 points and KaeLynn Boyd tallied 11. In addition, Walker nabbed a game-high five steals, while Boyd dished out six assists.
Tierra Williams and Jessica Cerda scored 11 points apiece to pace Chicago State, while Tashuna Brown added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Kansas City 92, New Mexico State 84
After trailing by six at halftime, the Kangaroos outscored the Aggies 58-44 in the second half to defeat New Mexico State 92-84 Thursday at the Swinney Recreation Center. With the victory, Kansas City improves to 9-14 on the season and 5-5 in WAC play. The Aggies fall to 8-16 overall and 5-6 in the WAC.
The 'Roos shot 55 percent from the field, 30 percent from three-point range and 87 percent from the free throw line. NM State connected on 45 percent from the floor, 32 percent from beyond the arc and 54 percent from the charity stripe. Kansas City nearly doubled the Aggies in rebounds, 49-26.
Kim Nezianya led all players with career highs of 38 points and 21 rebounds for her WAC-leading 12th double-double of the year. She also broke the Kansas City career rebounding record during the game and now has 873 career boards. Eilise O'Connor added 17 points, while Taylor Leathers finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Sasha Weber paced NM State with 22 points, while Danesia Williamson added 17. Abby Scott tallied 14 points and Brianna Freeman finished with 10.
