The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the teams and individuals who received the organization's All-Academic Awards on Friday. Two WAC student-athletes and eight teams were honored.
Idaho's Hannah Kiser and Kansas City's Courtney Frerichs have been named 2013 Division I Women's Cross Country Individual All-Academic Honorees. Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished as an All-American or among the top 15 finishers (or 10 percent) in their regional meet.
Frerichs earned All-American honors after placing 38th at the 2013 women's NCAA Cross Country Championships and fourth at the Midwest Regional. The junior from Nixa, Mo. (Nixa HS) has cumulative GPA of 3.95 while majoring in chemistry.
Kiser, a senior from Wenatchee, Wash. (Wenatchee HS), finished 16th at the NCAA West Regionals and took first at the WAC Cross Country Championship. She is a biochemistry major and has a cumulative GPA of 3.94.
217 women’s programs and 160 men’s programs that earned All-Academic Team honors. Programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.00 or greater to qualify for the award.
For the men, Kansas City (3.31), Seattle U (3.38) and Utah Valley (3.22) were honored. On the women's side, Idaho (3.62), Kansas City (3.47), New Mexico State 93.29), Seattle U (3.60) and Utah Valley (3.22) all garnered recognition.
