Seattle U 71, Utah Valley 57

OREM, Utah –(SU Media Relations) A strong defensive effort, control of the boards, significant contributions from the bench, and a spectacular scoring half by junior Isiah Umipig (Federal Way, Wash.) all led to Seattle University’s 71-57 victory over Utah Valley University, the leaders of the Western Athletic Conference coming into the night, Thursday in men’s collegiate basketball action at the UCCU Center.

Umipig scored 27 of his game-high 32 points in the second half, finishing 12-of-20 from the field, including 7-of-11 from behind the three-point line, plus he pulled down a season-high seven rebounds. That was part of a significant 42-25 rebounding advantage for the Redhawks, including 11 offensive boards that led to 15 second chance points. Also, the Seattle U bench outscored the Utah Valley reserves, 26-8.

New Mexico State 71, Kansas City 48

LAS CRUCES, N.M. –(NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State men’s basketball team avenged a two-point loss to Kansas City earlier in the season by defeating the Kangaroos, 71-48, Thursday night inside the Pan American Center.

The Aggies have now won 20-consecutive Western Athletic Conference games inside the Pan American Center. With the win, NM State improves to 19-8 and 8-3 in WAC play. The ‘Roos fall to 7-16 and 4-6 in conference play.

Texas-Pan American 71, Chicago State 68 (OT)

EDINBURG –(UTPA Media Relations) Junior Shaquille Boga nailed a three-pointer with 18.8 seconds left in overtime to propel the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team past the Chicago State University Cougars 71-68 on Thursday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.

The win is the Broncs' (7-19, 3-8 Western Athletic Conference) first at home in WAC play. It snaps a five-game losing streak and a six-game home losing streak. The win also gives the Broncs a season sweep of the Cougars (10-13, 5-4 WAC).

Bakersfield 76, Idaho 67

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -(AP) Brandon Barnes and Aly Ahmed scored 16 points apiece and both pulled down double-digit rebounds as Cal State Bakersfield defeated Idaho 76-67 on Thursday night for the Roadrunners' first Western Athletic Conference home victory.

Ahmed grabbed 13 rebounds and Barnes 10 for a 42-31 advantage on the boards. Ahmed scored 10 points and Corey Hall 12 of his 14 in the second half for the Roadrunners (10-14, 3-7), who had lost their four previous WAC home games in their first year in the conference.
