Grand Canyon 7, Tennessee State 6 (9)
The Antelopes defeated Tennessee State 7-6 in nine innings in their first game of the day at the Hillenbrand Invitational Friday. Grand Canyon, which had 10 hits in the game, capitalized on six Tennessee State errors in the game. Four 'Lopes – Haley Walker, Camree Wartman, Kelsey Barak and Nicole Newbury – had multi-hits in the game. Kailey Regester earned the win in the circle, allowing four runs on 10 hits while striking out four over 7.0 innings.
No. 4 Alabama 13, Grand Canyon 5
After tying the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the third, Grand Canyon surrendered eight runs to fall 13-5 to No. 4 Alabama and fall to 3-5 on the season. The 'Lopes tallied 11 hits against the Crimson Tide, as four Grand Canyon players again had two hits in the game. Newbury and Taylor Nowlin both went 2-for-4 with two RBI, with Nowlin hitting a two-run homer. Nowlin suffered the loss in relief, allowing eight runs, five of which were earned, while striking out three over 7.0 innings.
No. 2 Florida 8, Seattle U 1
The Redhawks fell 8-1 to No. 2 Florida in their first game of the day at the Easton Desert Classic Friday. Sarah Petosa hit an RBI-double to account for Seattle U's only run of the game.
Hawai‘i 9, Seattle U 8
The Redhawks matched their season highs in hits (13) and RBI (8), but fell 9-8 to Hawai‘i later in the day to drop to 1-8 on the season. Lisa Maulden led a group of five Seattle U players with multiple hits in the game, going 3-for-4 with two runs, a home run and three RBI. Bubba Morrow was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two doubles and two RBI.
UC Santa Barbara 5, Bakersfield 3
The Roadrunners fell 5-3 to UC Santa Barbara in their first game of the Fresno State Kick-Off Friday. Karissa Veiga was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Amy Ricciardi was 1-for-3 and drove in a run.
UC Riverside 5, Bakersfield 3
Later in the day, the 'Runners fell 5-3 to UC Riverside to drop to 2-6 on the season. Madison Bundy was 1-for-2 with on run and two RBI. Kara Frankhouser drove in the other Bakersfield run.
St. John's 11, Kansas City 4
The Kangaroos fell 11-4 to St. John's in their first game of the Arkansas Invitational Friday. Caitlin Christopher hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to account for all four Kansas City runs.
Jackson State 9, Kansas City 5
The 'Roos stranded 10 runners and fell 9-5 to Jackson State later in the day. With the loss, Kansas City drops to 3-4 on the season. Bri Wyatt was 4-for-4 with two runs to lead the 'Roos.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 5, New Mexico State 0
The Aggies were shut out 5-0 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in their first game of the Troy Cox Classic. New Mexico State managed just four hits by four different players and stranded eight runners in the loss.
Iowa State 13, New Mexico State 3
The Aggies fell 13-3 to Iowa State to drop to 2-5 on the year. NM State gave up 14 hits in the loss and again had just four. Fiana Finau was 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI. Lacey Rother drove in the other NM State run.
Long Beach State 8, Utah Valley 1
The Wolverines suffered an 8-1 loss to Long Beach State at the Easton Desert Classic Friday. With the loss, Utah Valley falls to 0-6 on the season. Brittney Vansway was 1-for-2 and drove in the UVU run, while Amanda Robinson had the other hit.
