DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Shavine Hodges and Kansas City’s Briana Carter have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 10-16.
Hodges, a senior from Montego Bay, Jamaica (Colbourne College), ran a season-best time of 7.41 seconds in the 60-meter dash on her way to a fifth-place finish in a very fast field. Her time is the fastest recorded in the WAC this season and is tied for 32nd in the nation. Hodges also helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a conference-best time on Saturday (3:44.65). This is her fourth WAC Athlete of the Week honor this season.
Carter, a junior from Warrensburg, Mo. (Warrensburg HS), earned a third place finish in the triple jump at the Iowa State Classic with a distance of 12.24m (40-2). Carter's triple jump was the best of any WAC performer this season. This is her second WAC Athlete of the Week honor this season.
