Utah 5, Sacramento State 4
SACRAMENTO, Calif. –(SAC Media Relations) Down 5-2 in the seventh inning, Sacramento State got a run in the seventh and another in the ninth and had the potential tying run at second base but Utah was able to escape with a 5-4 victory in the finale of a four game series.
The Hornets and Utes split the season-opening series 2-2, with each of the four games decided by just a single run. In the series the teams each scored 13 runs, each committed three errors, Utah had just one hit more than Sacramento State, and the Utes had a slim .256-.254 advantage in batting average over a remarkably even four games.

Sam Houston State 7, Northern Colorado 1
HUNTSVILLE, Texas –(NC Media Relations) Once again the game broke open in one inning as the Northern Colorado baseball team allowed five runs in the sixth inning in a 7-1 loss at Sam Houston State on Monday afternoon.
"We had the opportunity to compete and compare ourselves against a Sam Houston State program that has been to two straight NCAA Regionals," Head Coach Carl Iwasaki said. "We now have first-hand knowledge of what we need to improve upon to compete against teams at the post season national level. I believe with closing the gaps in reducing big (3 run plus) innings and timely situational hitting, we will be able to compete at the national level. It was an overall good experience for us to compete against a quality opponent in week one of the 2014 season."
