Bakersfield Roadrunners
Bakersfield competed at the Run for the Dream event in Fresno, Calif., on Monday ... Megan Thompson crossed the finish line in first place in the 800m with a time of 2:23.20, more than three seconds faster than any of her competitors ... the 4x400m relay team of Marina Emhoff, Erica Wilcox, Ariana Mariscal, and Alyssa Page ... the quartet accumulated a time of 4:00.62 in their first ever relay together to place first ... sophomore Audrena Harlan best jump was 10.89m (35-08.75 ft), good enough to place seventh overall in a pool of 12 strong jumpers ... freshman LaShya Morgan’s time of 11:18.39 in the 3000m was good enough for fourth place ... the ‘Runners are back in action at the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 26-28 in Moscow, Idaho.
Chicago State Cougars
Chicago State competed at the Chicagoland Indoor Championships last weekend ... the men placed seventh and the women took sixth ... senior Jaya Emerson took second in the shot put, using a throw of 13.48 meters ... she also finished third in the weight throw with a school record throw of 15.63 meters, beating her own previous mark ... freshman Zhate Jackson ran the 400 meters in 58.04, good for second place ... she also grabbed a second-place finish in the 200 meters (25.32) ... sophomore Kory Jackson pulled out a victory in the long jump (6.86 meters) ... freshman Tyler Whittler victory is the Cougars’ third straight in the 60m at the men’s Chicagoland Championship ... Chicago State returns to the track on Feb. 22 at the Panther Tune-Up hosted by UW-Milwaukee.
Grand Canyon ‘Lopes
The Grand Canyon University track and field teams competed at the Don Kirby Invitational over the weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. ... the 29-team invitational, which featured several of the top-tier track and field programs in the country, marked the final competition for the Antelopes before they compete in the WAC Indoor Championships ... junior distance runner Tyler Vandyke took home a second-place finish in the men’s 3000-meter run and currently holds the third-fastest time in the WAC in the event ... Shavine Hodges, who holds the fastest time in the conference in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, ran a season-best in the 60-meter, posting a time of 7.41 seconds ... junior thrower Vanessa Levy broke a pair of school records in the women’s weight throw and women’s shot put ... Jelena Andjelkovic also snapped a school record in the 800-meter run, recording a time of 2:16.71.
Idaho Vandals
Idaho competed at two meets last week in Seattle, Wash., the Husky Classic and the UW Open ... Holly Stanton-Browning competed both days for the Vandals and ran a career-best time of 17:36.93 in the 5000m on Saturday, and returned Sunday to run a career-best time of 9:49.87 in the 3000m ... Faith Eruwa took the individual victory in the triple jump at the UW Open with a career-best leap of 37-4.5 (11.39) ... Emmanuel Panchol finished second in the high jump at the Husky Classic with a career-best leap of 6-8.75(2.05m) and placed first in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 48-5.25 (14.76m) ... his triple jump mark leads the WAC so far this season… in the UW Open he placed second in the high jump with a leap of 6-4.74 (1.95m) ... this week, the Vandals are off, as UI prepares to host the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 26-28 at the ASUI Kibbie Dome.
Kansas City Kangaroos
Kansas City competed at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 14 ... Bryce Miller’s time of 8:13.19 in the 3000m shattered the previous school record by nearly 10 seconds and is the fastest in the WAC by almost 12 seconds ... Briana Carter earned a third place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 12.24m (40-2) ... freshman Brooke Guiot blazed to a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.52 – just three one-hundredths of a second off the pace ... Guiot’s time is the second-quickest finish in school history ... senior Michelle Momo placed eighth in the 60-meter dash with time of 7.89 seconds ... this week, the ‘Roos travel to Warrensburg, Mo. for the UCM Classic on Friday, the final meet of the season before the 2014 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
New Mexico State Aggies
The NM State track and field comes off the Red Raider Open on Feb. 14 ... the meet was headlined by junior Diana Hawk finishing first in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:58.33, which moved her into second all-time for NM State ... NM State also finished first in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:48.52 ... sophomore Marissa Gonzales finished sixth in the pole vault with a height of 3.35m (10-11.75), which moved her into second all-time for the Aggies ... the Aggies also finished first in the 600-yard run, where sophomore Ashley Hall led the team with a time of 1:28.90 ... the Aggies the week off before traveling to the 2014 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 26-28 in Moscow, Idaho.
Seattle University Redhawks
The Redhawks competed at the Husky Classic last weekend ... Sophie Curatilo inched closer to the school record in the mile, finishing in 4:57.57, less than two seconds off the school record set five years ago ... she also moved into second place on the WAC performance list in that event ... the women’s 4x400 meter relay team (Mandy Rusch, Katie Fleming, Cali Cull, and Candice de Sauvage) combined for a time of 3:58.80, almost three seconds faster than the previous mark set at last year’s conference championships ... Zachary Schlachter finished second overall in the 200 meter dash in 22.17 seconds ... Shaddye Melu finished eighth overall in both the 200 meter dash, in 22.42 seconds, and in the 400 meter dash, in 48.99 seconds ... Seattle U is off until the 2014 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 26-28 in Moscow, Idaho.
Texas-Pan American Broncs
The Broncs competed at the Red Raider Open last week in their final meet of the season before the WAC Indoor Championships ... Trey Taylor and Jasmine Davison recorded career-best throws as they won the men’s and women’s weight throw with throws of 17.16 and 17.12 meters respectively ... senior Jesus Alvarez finished in third in the men’s shot put with a throw of 15.74 meters ... junior Deandra Barroso finished in third in the women’s long jump with a distance of 5.64 meters ... the Broncs posted nine top-five finishes at the Red Raider Open ... the Broncs are off until the 2014 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 26-28 in Moscow, Idaho.
Utah Valley Wolverines
In its last action, Utah Valley competed at the Boise State Team Challenge in Nampa, Idaho ... junior Ivie Gonsalves and senior Brooke Hodson-Davies led the women by setting new school marks in the 3000-meter run ... sophomore Cole Eisenhour and freshman Ryle Williams led the men as Eisenhour eclipsed his previous record in the 60m hurdles and Williams set a new school mark in the high jump ... three of the four UVU track & field athletes won their respective events, as Gonsalves took the 3000 in a time of 9:49.82, Eisenhour won the 60m hurdles with 8.13 and Williams finished first in the high jump by clearing 2.10m ... the Wolverines are off until the 2014 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 26-28 in Moscow, Idaho.
