Utah Valley 79, Chicago State 70

CHICAGO – (UVU Media Relations) After being named to the Academic All-America team earlier in the day, Utah Valley University senior Holton Hunsaker scored 18 points and tied a career high with nine assists, leading UVU to a 79-70 win at Chicago State on Thursday.

The win keeps the Wolverines (15-9, 10-2) on top in the WAC and improves UVU’s road record in conference to 6-1. Zach Nelson scored 16 points, hitting 6-of-7 from the floor with Mitch Bruneel adding 15 points — on 5-for-7 shooting — on a night the Wolverines finished 27-for-53 (50.9 percent) from the field.

"This was a tough game. Chicago State had a lot of energy and threw a lot of different looks at us," said UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker. "We knew it was going to be a difficult ball game, they (Chicago State) are always tough for us. I was very pleased with the poise and composure that we held throughout the game."

New Mexico State 78, Texas-Pan American 61

EDINBURG, Texas –(NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State men’s basketball team spread the ball around offensively and defeated the Texas-Pan American Broncs, 78-61, in Edinburg, Texas, Thursday night. The Aggies moved to 21-8 on the year and 10-3 in Western Athletic Conference play, while UTPA falls to 8-20 overall and 4-9 in league action.

Junior guard Daniel Mullings scored a team-high 18 points shooting 5-of-7 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Sophomore center Sim Bhullar was too much for the Broncs in the middle as he added 15 points going 7-of-8 from the field and the Aggies as a team posted 36 points in the paint.

Grand Canyon 74, Seattle U 73

Seattle, Wash.-(GCU Media Relations) The Grand Canyon University men's basketball team won for the sixth time in their last seven games, tonight winning in thrilling fashion with a 74-73 win over Seattle at Key Arena in Seattle, Wash.

The win improves GCU to 13-11, 8-3 in the Western Athletic Conference. Seattle falls to 12-13, 4-8 in the WAC. The Antelopes remain in third place, only 1.5 games behind first-place Utah Valley and 1.0 game behind New Mexico State.

Jerome Garrison, who finished with 18 points, made one of two free throws with 12.6 seconds left that gave GCU a 74-73 lead. The Redhawks had one final chance but Garrison blocked the driving layup by D'Vonne Pickett and Sam Daly rebounded the ball and was able to run out the clock to seal the victory.

Bakersfield 74, Kansas City 69

KANSAS CITY, MO. - (CSUB Media Relations) The Bakersfield Roadrunners built a 13 point lead with less than two minutes remaining Thursday night which turned out to be just enough as they survived an 11-3 run to end the game and a comeback scare from Kansas City in a 74-69 win at the Municipal Auditorium.

Despite the late comeback attempt, the Roadrunners again played one of their best games of the season, using balanced scoring, 23 points from Issiah Grayson (R-Sr., Atlanta, Ga., Southern Idaho CC) and a career-high 19 points from Aly Ahmed (So., Alexandria, Egypt, Midlands CC) to shoot over 50% from the field en route to their third-straight win in Western Athletic Conference play.
