Sacramento State 1, #21 Texas A&M 0

COLLEGE STATION, Texas –(SAC Media Relations) Junior Ty Nichols through seven shutout innings, aided by three double plays, and sophomore Sutter McLoughlin got the last six outs while senior David Del Grande drove home the only run of the game as Sacramento State scored a 1-0 win over #21 Texas A&M on Friday night.

The win was the first for Sacramento State (4-2) over a ranked team since beating No. 25 New Mexico State in April 2012. The game was the first in program history against a team from the SEC while Texas A&M (4-1), which had scored 34 runs through its first four games of the year, took its first loss of the season.

Seattle U 4, Cal State Northridge 2

Northridge, Calif.-(SU Media Relations) The Seattle University baseball team continued its strong pitching performance from the previous weekend, and a freshman showed why he was drafted last year, as the Redhawks came from behind to defeat Cal State Northridge, 4-2, Friday afternoon in collegiate baseball action at Matador Field.

With Seattle U down 2-1 heading into the seventh inning, Chase Fields (Ontario, Ore.) drew a one-out walk, and Michael McCann (Vancouver, Wash.), drafted in the 40th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners, followed with a home run to right field on an 0-2 pitch, the first of his collegiate career.

Texas-Pan American 1, Northwestern State 0

EDINBURG –(UTPA Media Relations) University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball senior pitcher Sam Street twirled a completed game two-hit shutout to beat the Northwestern State University Demons 1-0 on Friday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in the Broncs' first game of the Al Ogletree Classic.

Street (2-0) retired the first 11 Demons (2-4) he faced before Chase Daughdrill singled off of a 2-2 pitch with two outs in the fourth. Street responded by retiring the next 15 hitters. With two outs in the ninth, Bret Underwood hit a blooper to center and Joel Atkinson and Daughdrill each got plunked on 1-2 pitches. Street worked the count full with Caleb Dugas before inducing a groundout to second to end the game.

Grand Canyon 8, Hofstra 1

Phoenix, Ariz.-(GCU Media Relations)Behind strong pitching from their ace and an offense that connected for a season-high 15 hits, the Grand Canyon University baseball team improved to 2-3 on the season with an 8-1 win over visiting Hofstra University (0-1) tonight at Brazell Stadium. It was the home opener for the Antelopes, while the game marked the season-opener for the Pride after their opening weekend series was cancelled.

Starter Jorge Perez tossed 9.0 innings, his seventh career complete game, allowing just one run on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts to even his record at 1-1. That run came in the first inning, a frame in which Hofstra collected two of their six total hits.

Bakersfield 5, Towson 4

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—(CSUB Media Relations) Garrett Pierce (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) singled in Logan Trowbridge (Jr., Santa Cruz, Calif., College of San Mateo) with one out in the bottom of the ninth to give Bakersfield (4-2) a 5-4 come from behind victory over Towson (3-1) Friday night at Hardt Field.

A Pierce RBI single in the first gave the ‘Runners an early advantage. RBI’s from Peter Bowles, Zach Fisher, and Pat Fitzgerald gave the Tigers the lead in the second. Jordie Hein’s (Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz., Chapparal HS) double plated Nick Vehlewald (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) in the bottom of the third for the second CSUB run.

Northern Colorado 6, Colorado Mesa 4

GREELEY –(NC Media Relations) After losing the last four games via the big inning, the Northern Colorado baseball team did the exact opposite, scoring five runs in the third for the 6-4 victory in the home opener on Friday against Colorado Mesa.

The Bears (1-5) batted around in the third inning and were just the double shy of the team cycle as Mountain View High School (Loveland, Colo.) teammates Nick Miller and Ben Netzel tripled and hit the team's first home run of the year, respectively, for four of the five RBI in the frame. Netzel ended the game 2-for-3 as did junior catcher Bryan Tibbitts (Westminster, Colo.).

SIUE 4, New Mexico State 3 (12)

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State baseball team lost to SIU-Edwardsville, 4-3, in 12 innings on Friday night at Presley Askew Field to fall to 3-2 on the season. The Cougars, meanwhile, pick up their first victory of the season and move to 1-3.

SIU-E scored the final run of the game in the top of the 12th inning on a wild pitch by Aggie reliever Zach Freeman. Freeman came on in relief for NM State starter Chris Bradley and pitched the final six innings. He only allowed five hits and the lone run in the 12th, while striking out six Cougars, but was still saddled with his first loss of the season.

Pepperdine 5, Utah Valley 0

MALIBU, Calif. –(UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University’s bats were kept silent by Pepperdine starter Corey Miller in a 5-0 series-opening loss to the Waves. Miller pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout, striking out 11 while walking just one.

He retired 15 straight at one point and didn’t surrender a hit until Zach Slesk’s two-out double in the sixth. Zac Fuller had the only other hit for the Wolverines (2-4), a single in the eighth.
